Toast Of New York could resume his racing career

Toast Of New York is currently back in the UK being assessed by veterinary staff to see if he can make a return to racing.

Last seen being agonisingly beaten in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Classic by Bayern for Jamie Osborne, injury forced the UAE Derby winner into early retirement.

After his Breeders' Cup run he was bought by Al Shaqab Racing and has been standing at stud in Qatar, but the fledgling breeding industry there is such he has not covered many mares.

Al Shaqab's racing manager Harry Herbert said: "He is currently in the UK, but we are very much feeling our way with him at the moment.

"He's being evaluated by Duncan Moir, Al Shaqab's vet, and we'll take it from there one step at a time.

"I must stress that at this stage he is some way off returning to training. However, should all go well that is what we'd like to do.

"His tendon injury has now had plenty of time to heal and we just felt it was worth another shot.

"We are very much feeling our way at this stage, though."
