Gallops report from Andrew Balding's Lambourn yard

CONTANGO worked enthusiastically ahead of a trip to Headquarters on Saturday where he will try to preserve an unbeaten record for owners Kennet Valley Thoroughbreds and trainer Andrew Balding.

The Casamento gelding is two from two following clear-cut wins at Leicester and Chester.

He has shown versatility at those totally different venues and moved with purpose in his winding up gallop at Park House Stables.

STRAIGHT RIGHT was a shade out of his depth in the Commonwealth Cup when the former French-based colt made his UK debut.

However, he has had more time to settle into the Kingsclere scheme of things and put in some encouraging work ahead of a visit to Newbury.

Although he was engaged in the Group Three Hackwood Stakes, Balding has elected to stick to the handicap route.

The stable has PERFECT ANGEL in the Hackwood and she is in good order without having returned to the best of her two-year-old form.

Connections are buoyed up by the way the Commonwealth Cup form has worked out.

MUNSTEAD STAR is lightly raced with scope for improvement.

The daughter of Sir Percy stays well and after a near-miss at Leicester can go well at Newbury.
