Testify heads for Cheltenham after Haydock win

Donald McCain is looking towards the Cheltenham Festival with Testify after he took his record over fences to three out of three in the Altcar Novices' Chase at Haydock.

McCain's string was severely depleted a couple of seasons ago when prominent owners Paul and Clare Rooney removed their string of over 60 horses, which included some top-class prospects.

Having built up his numbers back to a respectable level, McCain has continued to bang in the winners without quite getting the quality of animal which saw him regularly be successful at the bigger meetings, but he is now eyeing a Festival run with Testify.

Only three went to post for the Grade Two, but Positively Dylan fell early on leaving just Lake View Lad in opposition, with Testify dealing with him comfortably by seven lengths under Will Kennedy.

"We were on a hiding to nothing, but he's doing nothing wrong. He'll be entered in the JLT and the RSA next week," said McCain.

"He doesn't move like he must have soft ground, but he obviously handles it well.

"I was surprised he had the pace to win over two miles earlier in the season."
