Ornate is on the crest of a wave and rates the best bet at Southwell in the Betway Sprint Handicap.

Having seemingly lost his way last summer, he had an operation on his wind in July - and while it initially seemed to have had no effect, he is now rapidly approaching his peak form.

Back in his days with William Haggas, Ornate was a classy operator and signed off his first campaign with a second-place finish in the Flying Childers at Doncaster.

At three, he earned a rating of 110 - finishing third to Eastern Angel in the Scurry Stakes at Sandown - yet despite a few more decent runs, that was as good as it got.

He left Haggas to join Robert Cowell - and his stable debut promised plenty, running well behind Brando in the Abernant Stakes. But while he did win a conditions race at Nottingham, he never quite reached the heights he once promised.

Bought by current connections for 110,000 guineas, it was beginning to look expensive after several unplaced efforts, but Ornate showed signs of coming back to form when second at Southwell in December.

Since then he has continued to improve, winning twice on the Fibresand within three days - crucially showing he loves the surface.

He is no one-trick pony, though, and was a close second to Cowell's classy Encore D'Or at Newcastle most recently - pushing his mark back up to 95. He will take plenty of beating.

It is eminently possible David O'Meara's Liamba found the minimum trip too sharp last time out, so stepping back up to six furlongs for the Betway Heed Your Hunch Handicap should be in her favour.

She has also run some of her best races on the Fibresand, which is another reason to fancy her chances.

Placed several times before finally breaking her duck at Ayr in September, that remains her only victory to date - although there is no suggestion she is anything other than genuine.

Third on her comeback after a break, she was beaten only two lengths last time out - but this extra distance will help.

Mick Appleby's string always seem to be in form, and his Point Zero must have a good chance of following up his win at the track 10 days earlier in the Betway Selling Stakes.

Up 2lb for that success, he had previously been frustrating for connections. But new headgear - he was wearing an eyeshield for the first time - appeared to work the oracle.

Dropped into selling company, he looks a cut above.

Bellshill is taken to win the Unibet Irish Gold Cup for Willie Mullins at Leopardstown.

He ran a perfectly respectable race when fourth on his first run of the season behind stablemate Kemboy at Christmas.

This contest seems sure to be run at a much stronger gallop - which will suit Bellshill, who should really have won the Irish National under a big weight.

Also on the card, do not miss Gordon Elliott's Vision d'Honneur in the Chanelle Pharma Novice Hurdle.

Beaten on his Irish debut at Christmas, with that experience under his belt, he looked a top-class prospect when winning at Punchestown.

Warren Greatrex is to be commended for taking La Bague Au Roi to Dublin for the Flogas Chase - and she might just be better suited at the trip than Delta Work, who won over three miles last time out.

At that distance again, Elliott's runner would be strongly fancied - but over three furlongs less, the mare's accurate jumping might just hold sway.

Sporting Life tips:

LEOPARDSTOWN: 12.40 Court Maid, 1.15 Sir Erec, 1.50 Vision D'Honneur, 2.25 Cuneo, 3.00 La Bague Au Roi, 3.35 Bellshill 4.10 Last Goodbye, 4.40 Santa Rossa

SOUTHWELL: 1.00 Kodi Dream, 1.35 Liamba, 2.10 Point Zero, 2.45 ORNATE (NAP), 3.20 Geordielad, 3.50 Break The Silence.

DOUBLE: Ornate and Liamba.
