Lightning Spear goes for another Celebration

Lightning Spear remains in contention to become just the second horse in history to register back-to-back victories in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood on Saturday.

The David Simcock-trained six-year-old is likely to bid to emulate Chic, who won the Group Two in 2004-05.

Simcock could also run Arod, who would be making his debut for the Newmarket handler, having previously been in the care of Australian trainer Chris Waller and Peter Chapple-Hyam.

Roger Varian is responsible for four of the 16 entries after having confirmed Ennaadd, Dawn Of Hope, Realtra and Solomon's Bay.

Beat The Bank, from the yard of Andrew Balding, could look to make it two wins from as many starts at Goodwood by trying to follow up his success in the Thoroughbred Stakes.

Globetrotting Pattern-race winner Deauville is one of two potential runners for trainer Aidan O'Brien, who could also saddle Lancaster Bomber.

The only supplementary entry received was the Jean Claude-Rouget-trained Taareef.

Completing the list of entries is Gabrial (Richard Fahey), Hathal (William Haggas), Oh This Is Us (Richard Hannon), Opal Tiara (Mick Channon), Richard Pankhurst (John Gosden) and Zonderland (Clive Cox).
