Somehow back in action in Park Express Stakes at Naas

The view from connections ahead of the Lodge Park Stud EBF Park Express Stakes at Naas, featuring Cheshire Oaks winner Somehow.

Somehow is the headline act in the Lodge Park Stud EBF Park Express Stakes at Naas today.

Aidan O'Brien's filly won the Cheshire Oaks last spring before running with credit in both the Investec Oaks at Epsom and the Irish Oaks at the Curragh.

She rounded off her campaign with a Group Three success and is likely to be a warm order for the first Pattern race of the new turf season in Ireland.

Despite having to concede weight all round, Somehow is well clear on official ratings.

The second-best Irish horse on figures is the John Oxx-trained Flying Fairies, who was hugely impressive on her final start of 2016 in a Listed event at Leopardstown in October.

Oxx said: "She seems in good form and her last run was her best run. That was over a mile and a quarter and she's coming back to a mile on Sunday, but I think the ground will be quite testing, which should make it a good test of stamina.

"I'm just hoping she handles the ground. If she does, she should be competitive."

Looking ahead to the season as a whole, the Currabeg handler added: "We're taking that annual leap into the unknown!

"Hopefully we have some nice types. I think we have some nice two-year-olds and a few nicer three-year-olds than we had last year.

"Hopefully we'll come up with something."

There are two British challengers in the 12-strong field, with Mick Channon's Czabo joined by Ce La Vie from the Scottish yard of Keith Dalgleish.

Czabo was fourth in last season's Irish 1,000 Guineas and subsequently won a Listed event at Deauville.

She returned to France for her seasonal reappearance a couple of weeks ago, finishing down the field at Saint-Cloud, but Channon expects his charge to strip fitter for that outing.

He said: "Somehow will take a bit of beating, but I'm hoping our filly will run well.

"She was a little bit too fresh and a bit too keen on her first run a couple of weeks ago, but that should leave her spot on for this.

"We haven't got a great draw (10 of 12), but we'll have to get on with it and see what happens.

"At least we've got a run into her and she's going there in good form."

Ce La Vie takes a big step up in grade following an impressive debut success at Catterick in October.

"She did it well on debut, despite running a bit green," said Dalgleish.

"She stayed on nicely that day and I don't think she'll have any problem with the trip or the ground.

'She obviously has a bit to find on ratings, so we'll see what happens.

"We're hoping for the best."
