Silver Hallmark sinks McFabulous at Chepstow

Paul Nicholls' Aintree bumper winner McFabulous was beaten by Silver Hallmark on his hurdling bow at Chepstow on Wednesday.

McFabulous was sent off the 30/100 favourite for the Longcroft Building Services Supports Racing Welfare "National Hunt" Maiden Hurdle, but didn't jump fluently and hung all the way up the straight under Harry Cobden.

The five-year-old impressed in bumpers in the spring, winning at Newbury and Liverpool in good fashion, and Silver Hallmark was a seven-length third to him at the Berkshire track.

However, he reversed that form emphatically under Adam Wedge, jumping well in a prominent position and staying on well to the line to win by four lengths from McFabulous.

It was a ninth win from 23 runners over the last few weeks for the in-form Fergal O'Brien yard.

"If you don't jump you don't win," said Nicholls. "It's as simple as that."
