Gavin Sheehan was left to reflect upon the vagaries of racing at Ffos Las after the jockey was dramatically unshipped with a race at his mercy.
Sheehan appeared certain for victory in a two-and-a-half-mile novice hurdle at the Welsh circuit once the Warren Greatrex-trained Bob Mahler (4/11 favourite) had got the better of Swift Crusador after the final flight.
But it all went horribly wrong for the unfortunate Sheehan as his mount veered quickly right-handed away from the whip and unseated the jockey inside the final 150 yards of the race.
Swift Crusador (3/1) was left in the clear, and won by 30 lengths from We'll Be There.
"He ducked away from the whip," Sheehan told At The Races.
"I thought I had the beating (of Swift Crusador) but he was green in front so it was just a matter of trying to keep him going.
"It's not the nicest walk back in (to the weighing room) but that's racing."
