Glyn Schofield looking forward to Hong Kong Vase ride

Glyn Schofield is looking forward to teaming up with Max Dynamite in Sunday's Longines Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tin.

The Willie Mullins-trained seven-year-old finished third in the Melbourne Cup last time out but his rider that day, Zac Purton, is unavailable leaving Schofield, who watched the gelding in action on Monday, to step in for the ride.

He told www.hkjc.com: "When the ride looked like it would become available, I simply rang up and asked the question. I did briefly meet the connections in Melbourne and I'm delighted to be given the chance to ride him.

"He looks well and I'm very happy to be on him. He's in with a chance on his Melbourne Cup run."

Max Dynamite cantered twice around the main Sha Tin all-weather track on Monday and Mullins' assistant David Casey added: "He's in great order and was feeling good this morning. He's travelled up well from Melbourne."

Aidan O'Brien has a strong team headed by 2015 Vase hero Highland Reel, with Cup contenders Deauville and War Decree along with Mile runners Roly Poly and Lancaster Bomber all jogging and cantering a circuit of the all-weather track.

Travelling head lad Pat Keating said: "They've all travelled well, not a bother amongst them."

Harry Dunlop's Cup runner Robin Of Navan was one of the British contenders on show as he undertook some light work and schooled in the parade ring.

Dunlop's wife Christina said: "All his previous foreign travel so far has been by lorry, but he's taken this flight brilliantly and has been neighing happily since. He'll do some more serious work when Harry is here later this week."

The Andrew Balding-trained Blond Me also goes for Cup glory and work rider Leanne Masterton said: "I couldn't be happier, we didn't do much but she felt great."

Andre Fabre's Breeders' Cup Turf winner Talismanic lines up in the Vase and he is reported to have taken the trip to Hong Kong in his stride.

Fabre's travelling head lad Richard Lambert said: "The horse has taken the travelling well, just as he did when going to the US the last time. He has settled in well.

"Today was the first time he went out on the track and he adapted well. The plan is for him to follow exactly the same regime as in America and it will be a light week, with no work on the turf. We won't change anything."

Richard Hannon's Danehill Kodiac also runs in the Vase after winning the Cumberland Lodge and finishing third in the St Simon Stakes on his last two starts.

Travelling head lad Tony Gorman said: "He's travelled here super, and he was very fresh this morning. He'll do some more serious work on the grass later in the week when the boss (Richard Hannon) is here, but he's very fit already."
