  • Gabrial The One - 5.15 Chester

Richard Fahey had high hopes for Gabrial The One at the big Chester May Meeting but the son of  Zoffany eventually finished fifth behind Sam Cooke. He briefly looked a threat two out there before his run flattened out on the desperate ground and he can bounce back to land the Thyme People Handicap.

The quicker surface is the key and the three-year-old looks sure to be suited by this mile-and-a-half trip which he tried for the first time earlier this month. He’s been dropped two pounds to 77 and looks attractively treated on the pick of his two-year-old form and looks ready to shine here.

  • Sir Ron Priestley - 5.10 Haydock

Not a huge turnout for the Amix Handicap at Haydock but a nice clash nevertheless between four three-year-olds with plenty more to offer. Lariat was second to Private Secretary at Sandown earlier in the year but has gone up another 2lb following his subsequent second at Chester  so the confident vote goes to SIR RON PRIESTLEY. Trainer Mark Johnston has won the past two editions of this mile and a half handicap and Australia colt Sir Ron Priestley – who was a good fourth in a hot maiden at Goodwood last September – slammed recent easy Leicester winner Babbo’s Boy on his seasonal return at Ripon. An initial mark of 86 could seriously underestimate his potential and he’s fancied to control this race from the front under Franny Norton.

  • Too Darn Hot - 15:35 Curragh

Brilliant two-year-old who showed he'd trained on when a creditable second behind Telecaster in the Dante Stakes at York. Drop back to a mile certain to suit and it looks a major pointer that John Gosden is willing to run him back quickly.

  • Flashcard - 2.30 Goodwood

On a day when it looks difficult to find value in some of the feature races at Haydock and The Curragh, Flashcard is my best advice this Saturday in the Betfair Each-Way Edge Handicap at Goodwood.

Andrew Balding's charge was a horse I liked last season when scoring at 33-1 on his debut at Salisbury before following up on the same course, and then looked slightly unlucky when narrowly beaten in a valuable sales race at The Curragh on his final start.

There is a definite possibility that a handicap mark of 93 under-estimates Flashcard as Barbill, who beat him half a length in Ireland, is now rated 100 while the third Hot Team is now 102 having won a listed race in France.

FOOTBALL

Tom Carnduff - Sky Bet EFL Play Off Finals

Sky Bet Championship Final - Aston Villa v Derby County

When it comes to finding a goalscorer, the general price of 5/1 for Conor Hourihane netting anytime is appealing, especially when you consider that he has had direct involvement in 21 goals across all competitions.

The midfielder has the ability to strike from set-piece situations, which may come in handy as it could be a low-scoring affair.

Hourihane probably doesn’t get the wider credit he deserves for the role he plays in this Villa side. He has the ability to play a significant part though, and that could be finding the net.

Sky Bet League One Final - Charlton v Sunderland

(video no longer available)

It really is a cliché ‘too close to call’ game and 90 minutes will likely not be enough to separate the teams. Their last meeting in January finished 1-1, while Sunderland needed a 90th minute winner to steal a 2-1 home win over the Addicks in August.

This final is the one to sit on the fence on and take the draw at 9/4 when it comes to the outright markets. It’s great for the neutral, agonising for the supporters, but penalties looks like the outcome needed here.

Sky Bet League Two Final - Newport v Tranmere

(video no longer available)

At a price of 17/10, one of the best bets in this game comes from backing Norwood to continue his fine exploits in front of goal.

Recent Wembley experience should favour Tranmere here and the same can be said for Norwood.

He scored the winner this time last season in the National League play-off final against Boreham Wood and the Rovers faithful will be hoping for the same here.

FORMULA ONE

F1 Insider: Monaco Grand Pix

This will be Raikkonen's 17th Monaco Grand Prix of a career so varied that he has finished in every points-paying position apart from fifth and seventh around these famous streets. Having scored points in each of the first four races of 2019, he can at least guide his Alfa Romeo to a 12th career top-10 finish in the Principality.

  • Kyle Wood to score try anytime v Catalan

Wakefield head to Anfield licking their wounds after a second drubbing of the season at basement club London on Sunday but expect a response from Chris Chester's men here. Kyle Wood was one of the few players to emerge from the capital with some credit last week when he gathered his own kick for a try which sparked a late flurry from his team-mates.

He appeals at a best-priced 7/2 to cross anytime in this game. The key is Wakefield are starting to welcome some players back from injury and their pack is boosted on Saturday by the return of prop Anthony England and Dream Team second-rower Matty Ashurst. If they can help lay the foundations down the middle Wood has the spark from dummy half to cause any team problems and the big spaces of Anfield will give him the chance to shine.

The Dragons are on a high after their Nou Camp win over Wigan last week but are without Greg Bird here who will be a big loss. Wakefield at 5/4 to win the game made some appeal but Wood to cross anytime is the bet.
