Can Don't Touch win a second Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday?

Richard Fahey has a strong team heading to the Ayr Gold Cup. Check out his - and Ben Linfoot's - verdict on the Musley Bank runners.

Sportinglife exclusive: Sky Bet 7/2 Richard Fahey to win Ayr Gold Cup

Kimberella: Official Rating:111 Sky Bet odds: (20/1)
Ben Linfoot: Handles softer ground okay but very best form on better conditions or the all-weather. Has a very tough task off career-high mark
Star appeal: *

Richard Fahey Kimberella

Toscanini: OR: 110 Sky Bet Odds (12/1)
BL: Brought into the yard primarily as a high-class pacemaker for Ribchester but put in career-best performance last time when staying on for second in Sky Bet City Of York Stakes. Has to prove he still has the pace for this but an interesting contender
Star appeal: ****

Richard Fahey Toscanini

Don’t Touch: OR 109 Sky Bet Odds (20/1)
BL: Won this race two years ago off an 8lb lower mark and this will be his first go in a handicap since. Bettered that form when fifth in the Champion Sprint last autumn but below his best on all four starts this campaign.
Star appeal: **

Richard Fahey Don't Touch

Growl: OR 109 Sky Bet Odds (20/1)
BL: Second to Brando in this race last year off 8lb lower mark before running a blinder in second in the Champion Sprint, ahead of stablemate Don’t Touch. Not quite reached those heights subsequently but wasn’t far off when fourth off same mark in Stewards’ Cup
Star appeal: ***

Richard Fahey Growl

Mr Lupton: OR 108 Sky Bet Odds (20/1)
BL: Career-highs came when winning valuable York handicap off 102 as a three-year-old and Newmarket handicap earlier this season. That came off a 1lb lower mark of 107 and this will be his first handicap since. Nature of race likely to suit but ground a concern
Star appeal: ***

Richard Fahey Mr Lupton

Rene Mathis: OR 100 Sky Bet Odds (25/1)
BL: Has won handicaps off marks of 99 and 101 so attractive proposition at the weights, particularly with the ground turning in his favour (has won good handicaps twice on soft ground). Off since April but has gone well fresh before.
Star appeal: *****

Richard Fahey on Rene Mathis

Eastern Impact: OR 100 Sky Bet Odds (33/1)
BL: Used to be highly consistent but has been in and out this year. Struggled on his last two starts at Ripon and Doncaster. 3lb wrong at the weights after being reassessed on Tuesday and very hard to fancy in current form with conditions looking against him too
Star appeal: *

Richard Fahey Eastern Impact

Withernsea: OR 99 Sky Bet Odds (33/1)
BL: Lightly-raced over six furlongs the last few years with most of his running coming over seven furlongs and a mile. Testing ground brings him right into it as he loves such conditions and if it’s more of a stamina than a speed test that will suit. In the form of his life last three starts but beaten in all of them and has to defy career-high mark
Star appeal: ***

Richard Fahey Withernsea

Stamp Hill: OR 98 Sky Bet Odds (20/1)
BL: Showed nothing in 2017 until first-time blinkers saw him cause a right old shock in the Gigaset International Handicap at Ascot on King George day at 50-1. Not seen since and runs off 8lb higher on Saturday. Conditions fine and chance, whether going for Silver or Gold, depends on whether the headgear works again
Star appeal: **

Richard Fahey Stamp Hill

The Wagon Wheel: OR 98 Sky Bet Odds (16/1)
BL: Looks likely to be going for the Silver Cup and the way she finished at Beverley last time suggests the step back up to six is in her favour. However, they went off hard that day and she could be flattered, while she is yet to prove herself on testing ground
Star appeal: **

Richard Fahey The Wagon Wheel

Brian The Snail : OR 98 Sky Bet Odds (40/1)
BL: Another likely to be running in the Silver Cup. Showed promise in two starts when unbeaten as a juvenile and won on seasonal reappearance – but that’s as good as it got. Desperately disappointing last four starts, including in first-time blinkers in the Stewards’ Cup last time – and the 3lb drop in the weights isn’t enough to be drawn in
Star appeal: *
