Richard Fahey column on his Goodwood runners

Our star columnist takes us through another strong Saturday team with three runners in the Unibet Stewards' Cup.

Richard Fahey: Best chances

4.50 Goodwood - Qatar Handicap

6.20 Hamilton - EK, East Kilbride Novice Stakes

I thought Militia did very well to win at Ayr last week but I’m slightly surprised he got in the Qatar Stewards' Sprint Handicap at Goodwood on Saturday. Any rain would help him but it doesn’t look like coming. As long as it’s not too quick he could run well.

George Bowen probably needs to be a Group Three or Group Two horse to win a Unibet Stewards’ Cup under his penalty. However, on the form of his win at Hamilton last time and at York earlier in the year you’d have to give him a chance. Don’t draw a line through him.

I thought Growl ran ok in the Sky Bet Dash last Saturday. The draw didn’t help him there and he finished fourth. Rain would be in his favour but doesn't seem to be in the forecast.

It’s a pleasant surprise that Marie De Lyon got in rated 95 but early in the season I thought this was the race for her. She too would be suited by slower ground, but has a chance.

Lightning Attack is a horse we thought would run really well on debut at the York Dante meeting. He was disappointing there and has been gelded since. Seven furlongs will suit him in the Qatar EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes and he is a nice horse.

I thought Zap ran a blinder in the International at Ascot last week. If he turns up in the same form for the Qatar Handicap he must have a great chance from stall one.

Delph Crescent has really come good since we stepped him up in trip. He handles Beverley so he should be ok around here and has his chance in the closing Qatar Apprentice Handicap.

We’re double-handed in the opening Celebrating Laura Barry's 26th Birthday - EBF Novice Stakes at Thirsk. Golden Acre is a Kingman filly, she’s not overly big and from day one has been a natural. If she runs as she works she’ll go very well.

Angel Sarah needs to head down the handicap route. She’s had a couple of goes in maidens and struggled a little. This is her third run and I’d be surprised if she could win this.

Borodin and Calvados Spirit run in the William Hill Thirsk Summer Cup Handicap. The former is still quite inexperienced. This is only his fourth race and his first handicap and it’s quite a warm one to drop him in. He needs to be professional but if he grows up he’d have a small chance.

It’s a big day for Calvados Spirit. We’re very happy with him. He’s in great order and while he’s drawn wider than I’d like in 13 - I wouldn’t rule him out in an open race.

The Navigator didn’t enjoy the very fast ground at Carlisle last time. He’s a progressive horse, still quite backward, and one day could come good. We’ll have to see whether it’s in the JW 4x4 Northallerton Handicap.

I’ve been a fraction disappointed with Regulator. He finished fourth at Newmarket last time and the jockey thought he was saving a bit there. We’ve stuck cheekpieces on him in the Peter Bell Memorial Handicap to see if they get him going.

Picture No Sound came back a little jarred up from Dubai. He’s moving well again now and it will be interesting to see how he goes on. He’s been working ok.

The European Bloodstock News British EBF Fillies' Nursery at Newmarket looks very competitive. I though the handicapper hadn’t let Posh Perfect in lightly at York last time but she ran ok to finish second. He’s left her alone for that but she needs to improve here.

We drop Kimberella in grade for the Eric Roberts Memorial Conditions Stakes at Doncaster. We’re trying to get his confidence back as he’s been a bit disappointing and lost his way. It looks an ideal race for him though.

Sugar Coating is probably the most disappointing horse in the yard. She works to 90 at home but runs in a 0-70, the Unison Campaigning For Public Services Fillies' Handicap. That shows how it's gone. We’ve stuck a hood on which will hopefully help her.

Zebzardee runs in the BB Foodservice Nursery at Hamilton. He wasn’t quick enough for the Weatherbys Super Sprint and this is much more to his liking. He could go well.

Grise Lightning has had a wind operation and we’re very happy with her. She’s by Wootton Bassett and working really well. We look to have Roger Varian’s Angel’s Glory to beat in the British Stallion Studs EBF Soba Conditions Stakes . It wouldn’t be a shock if she won here. She’s in good order.

Gabrial The Devil has been going to Chester over a variety of trips this season but six furlongs here in the Gas Call Services Silk Series Lady Riders' Handicap will suit her well. She’s in great order and the ground is no bother.

Queen Penn has been running ok and she likes it here. More rain would suit her in the same race.

Monaco Rose is not 100% in love with the game but dropping down the weights and don’t put a line through her in the Dickies Bar Dumfries Handicap.

Sioux Frontier will definitely like the ground and it will be no surprise at all to see him bounce back and go close in the closing MacGregor Flooring Co Ltd Handicap.
