Richard Fahey gives us his thoughts on his runners for the second day of the Western Meeting at Ayr, including Pacino.
FRIDAY RUNNERS
2.10 Gumdrop
He ran well at Doncaster last time. He hit the lids that day and did too much in front but there aren’t many races for him so I’m happy to turn him out again quickly. The drop back to six furlongs won’t be a bother and he’s capable of a bold show.
2.10 Outrun The Storm
Hes been very keen but is just starting to settle which gives us half a chance. I was relatively happy with an opening mark of 70 which definitely gives him a chance but I’m just worried the ground might find him out.
2.45 Regional
He won his maiden on debut at Pontefract in July and is a colt who has always gone quite well at home. He’s nice and I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do up into Listed company here. He could go very well.
3.20 Electric Ladybird
This is her first run for us having been bought out of Archie Watson’s yard. On her previous form you’d imagine she’d want the ground a bit faster than this but she was purchased to run in this race and we’ve been pleased with her at home. We’d be delighted if she finished in the first three and she might if she handles conditions.
3.20 Exceptional
This could be a bit sharp for her but opportunities for a filly like this are few and far between. If they went flat out – or they get some more rain – we might get away with it. She’ll get Black Type at some stage, I’m convinced of that, but five-and-a-half furlongs here might not play to her strengths.
3.20 Three Coins
This is the last run of her career and if she got some Black Type I’d be delighted – and a little surprised. I’d love to see her prove me wrong though.
3.55 George Bowen
He's not shown an awful lot since finishing second at Pontefract and this is a tough race to bounce back in. Last year he ran in the Gold Cup, so the fact he's in the Bronze Cup on Friday shows you how much of a chance he's been given by the handicapper.
3.55 Alben Spirit
He's been in great form and I was really pleased he took another step forward at York last time out. He has to find more again here, he's actually 2lb wrong, but he's an improving three-year-old and there aren't too many of those in the race.
3.55 Paddy Power
He just sneaks in at the bottom but he's just been struggling to find his form. He can pull a performance out of nowhere and he did run well in this race last year off a higher mark, but he'll have to run better than he has done at any stage this season to figure.
4.55 Pacino
He must have a chance in division one of the Western House Hotel Handicap. He ran really well when second at Chester last week and we’re taking five pounds off with Billy Garrity here to help him out.
4.55 Itwouldberudenotto
He’s had a few niggly problems, nothing serious, and I’d love to see him run a big race for his owners who always go up to this meeting. He’s back down to a mark from which he can be very competitive if anywhere near his best.
5.25 Star Of St James
He was disappointing at Lingfield at the weekend and we don’t know why. We’ll try again here and he’s another I’d like to see bounce back for his owners.
