Richard Fahey guide to Ayr Thursday team

Our star columnist is well represented on day one of the Ayr Western Meeting. Check out his horse-by-horse guide to the full team.

13:30 Ambassador

He doesn’t show a lot at home so it was a pleasant surprise when he ran quite well on debut, finishing third behind an impressive winner at Newcastle. Hopefully he’ll progress for that, he’s quite laidback and might just be a horse who keeps his best for the track.

13:30 Dreaming Blue

He’s a colt we really like. He’s quite big and whether he’ll be up to winning at Ayr first time remains to be seen but he’s nice and I’m looking forward to seeing him run.

14:00 Starlight Romance

She's been disappointing this season but we’ve stuck a visor on here to try and help and she did run a little better at Thirsk last time.

14:00 Right Action

He needs to bounce back. He's a horse who always starts a season well and while he lost his way a little, the handicapper has just started to give him a chance. He was very disappointing at Haydock last time though.

14:00 Maggies Angel

I was delighted to see her win at Musselburgh. She was a decent two-year-old but it’s taken a long time for the handicapper to give her a chance since. She’s capable of going very well here.

14:30 Lightning Attack

He’s a horse I’d love to win with. He’s a 16-race maiden but has been running consistently well in the main and the ground was quite quick at Musselburgh the last day. Hopefully the surface at Ayr will suit him better.

15:00 Silver Dust

He had a setback after his reappearance and has been off for a while. We’re very happy with him at home and he’s fit so shouldn't need this. I’d really like to see him show something here.

15:30 Exhort

She’s got a penalty for winning her Listed race and on ratings that makes it tough for her. I’d be delighted if she was placed.

15:30 Forest Ranger

I’m afraid it’s even worse for him as he has a Group Two penalty to shoulder which is difficult. Track and trip will suit though and he's not out of it if at the top of his game.

16:00 Amber Spark

She’s been running well without winning of late and has her chance again in a competitive little race.

16:00 Eva Maria

I’m a little frustrated with her draw as she’s out in 13 which isn’t ideal over ten furlongs here. She’s not very big and has 9st 7lb to carry too but is a nice filly who is stepping up to ten furlongs for the first time. I just wish she wasn’t so wide.

16:30 Militia

He’s dropped way down in the weights but needs to find some form quickly. I thought there was a glimmer of promise two runs ago at Pontefract and this would be a drop in grade for him.

16:30 Orange Blossom

She’s run ok on her two runs for us, finishing second at Epsom last time. Dropping back to five furlongs won’t be a bother and she’d take some beating if back near her best.

17:00 Firewater

The step up in trip won’t worry him and he should be competitive here as long as the ground doesn’t dry up too much. He’s very consistent.

17:00 Sempre Presto

She’s finding it tough to win races but never lets you down. She’s very tough and honest but I just feel the handicapper has her exactly where he wants her right now.
