Horse Racing Tips: Nap of the Day

Ben Linfoot has a tip for every UK meeting on Tuesday with the Nap selection running at Pontefract.

Tuesday selections

MARTHA’S MOMENT – 2.15 Pontefract (NAP)

The best bet of the day on Tuesday is Ed Dunlop’s MARTHA’S MOMENT in the Dianne Nursery Handicap at Pontefract.

The daughter of Awtaad has shaped really well on her three starts over five furlongs, particularly at Musselburgh where she was fourth having lost two places very close to the line.

Her pedigree suggests she could be a miler next year, but stepping up in trip to six furlongs looks sure to unlock improvement in the here and now and Dunlop is in great form (seven winners at 26% the last two weeks).

Not only that but he has a super 15 from 50 30% strike-rate at Pontefract in the summer months of June and July, while the booking of Paul Mulrennan suggests he means business (the pair are 3/6 together at this track).

MORTY – 1.30 Wolverhampton

David O’Meara’s MORTY appeals in division one of the Swiss Steel UK Handicap at Wolverhampton.

The four-year-old drops back into a 0-60 for the first time in nine starts and that should make him really competitive here especially back on the all-weather.

He’s only run at Wolverhampton once before but that was in victory last November and Kingman progeny have a superb record on the Tapeta track here (23/89 26% the last three years).

He’ll likely be dropped in by David Nolan from stall 10 and if he can get cover and settle well a strong late run is predicted.

LA DOMANIALE – 6.30 Uttoxeter

Jonjo O’Neill’s LA DOMANIALE has taken well to fences and she can land the BOG Every Day At Vickers.Bet Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase at Uttoxeter.

The six-year-old jumped well when she won on her fencing debut two starts ago and she acquitted herself well in second against the boys last time at Worcester.

Back at Uttoxeter in a small field this looks a good opportunity for her to get a second chasing win under her belt.

MADAME BONBON – 6.40 Brighton

MADAME BONBON looks a sweet bet in the Follow @AtTheRaces On Twitter Fillies’ Handicap at Brighton.

The daughter of Iffraaj has struggled in the early part of the season but fared much better dropped back to seven furlongs at Leicester last time and she’s now 9;lb lower in the weights than when she started her campaign.

Forcing the issue at this seven-furlong trip looks the way to go with her and this race looks a good opportunity to execute such tactics as there looks very little early pace pressure on paper.

Franny Norton takes over in the saddle which looks a positive from a pace point of view and the Johnston team are well known for their successful Brighton raids at this time of year.

RENDITION – 7.50 Ffos Las

The drop in trip to 10 furlongs can see Cheveley Park’s RENDITION get her head in front in the Forever Puppy Fillies’ Handicap at Ffos Las.

The daughter of Ulysses was too keen to do herself justice over 1m4f on handicap debut at Newbury last time out but she was still going well with three furlongs to go before she weakened in the final quarter mile.

A 3lb drop to 72 gives her a chance in a weaker 10-furlong race at Ffos Las and trainer Andrew Balding has a fine record here of 28 wins at 27%.

July winners:

  • Divine Magic 9/4
  • Who's The Guv'Nor 4/5
