Horse Racing Tips: Nap of the Day

David Ord has the best Saturday bets with his Nap in action in the Coral Scottish Grand National at Ayr.

ADAAY IN DEVON - 5.45 Bath

ADAAY IN DEVON proved she'd trained on from two to three with a creditable run in the Cammidge Trophy at Doncaster and duly took advantage of a drop into handicap company to win readily at Bath earlier this month. She goes back up to Listed level on her return to the same venue and although most of her best form has come with considerable cut in the ground, there should still be enough moisture around (officially good, good to soft in places at time of writing) to be seen at her best. Her obvious race-fitness looks a considerable plus in this company.

HIDALGO DES BORDES - 7.00 Exeter

HIDALGO DES BORDES can land the novices' handicap chase at Exeter. Warren Greatrex wastes no time in sending his point-to-point recruit straight over fences after qualifying for a handicap mark with three quick hurdles outings since the turn of the year, the last of which gave some encouragement he was getting the hang of racing under Rules. The winner of that race was given a mark of 108 so Hidalgo Des Bordes' opening 88 looks potentially quite generous and he's backed to take to the regulation fences at the first time of asking.

Scottish Grand National tips! Ayr and Newbury preview

GIT MAKER – 3.35 Ayr (NAP)

He pulled 18 lengths clear of the rest when chasing home subsequent Grade One winner Inothewayurthinkin in the Kim Muir at Cheltenham and from an unchanged mark, GIT MAKER makes loads of appeal.

Jamie Snowden’s charge is relatively fresh having had only three starts this term and remain unexposed over longer distances. If in the same form as last time he’ll take a bit of beating.

GRAIN D’OUDAIRIES – 2.15 Bangor

He’s up ten pounds for a runaway win at Market Rasen last time but GRAIN D’OUDAIRIES will still take a bit of pegging back around here.

He had any amount in hand as he beat Will Sting by 16 lengths, a weak pace is forecast again in this and he should be able to dominate and having had only three starts over fences, there should be plenty more to come.

THUNDER BALL – 3.15 Newbury

Having caught the eye when seventh in the Lincoln on his reappearance, THUNDER BALL is taken to plunder this valuable pot.

He went for home a bit too soon at Doncaster having travelled powerfully through the race and from an unchanged mark, on slightly better ground, and ridden with a little more restraint, he has to be a major player.

BARADAR – 5.30 Thirsk

Most of these are better served by big-field handicaps but BARADAR looks set to go from the front and will take a bit of passing.

Silvestre De Sousa rides, his mount has the benefit of a run under his belt when fifth in the Cammidge Trophy at Doncaster, and seven furlongs looks to be his optimum trip.

REALISED – 6.25 Nottingham

There’s guesswork involved here and the betting will be a key guide but REALISED is an interesting handicap debutant for the excellent Harry Eustace team.

A well-bred daughter of Wootton Bassett, she didn’t see the track at two and was restricted to three quick outings last autumn, hinting at ability. She’s clearly a work in progress but there’s more to come as she gets the hang of things and she’s likely to prove better than a mark of 62 in time.

UNCLE DICK – 7.50 Brighton

He was a three-time course-and-distance winner last season and UNCLE DICK returns to his favourite track from a two pounds lower mark than his last winning one.

Eve Johnson Houghton has team in great order right now and the six-year-old met with trouble in running on his latest start at Wolverhampton and finished with petrol in the tank. He was dropped two pounds and that seems generous.
