Blue Point aimed at Haydock Sprint Cup after Royal Ascot run

Charlie Appleby has set his sights on the 32Red Sprint Cup at Haydock with Blue Point after reporting the colt to have returned from Royal Ascot "a bit jarred up".

The Shamardal colt was part of a thrilling three-way finish to the Commonwealth Cup, having to settle for third behind Caravaggio and fellow Godolphin runner Harry Angel in the six-furlong heat.

Appleby was thrilled with his charge's effort in defeat but believes Blue Point needs a bit of time to get over that run, with the Haydock Group One on September 9 now a tentative target.

"He has run a blinder in the Commonwealth, a race many thought was the best race of the five days," Appleby told www.godolphin.com.

"But he has returned home a bit jarred up. A few weeks off will do him good.

"It means he will miss the July Cup, as well as the G1 Nunthorpe at York.

"But we hope to have him back for the G1 Haydock Sprint Cup."
