Hugo Palmer eyes Musker prize with Vintage Folly at Yarmouth

Hugo Palmer has drawn a line through Vintage Folly's last effort and is hoping she will show her true colours in the EBF Stallions John Musker Fillies' Stakes at Yarmouth on Wednesday.

The daughter of Makfi's run was too bad to be true as she trailed in last of 11 behind Strathspey in the Group Two Prix de Malleret at Saint-Cloud in July and was found to be in season afterwards.

She had finished second to Shutter Speed in the Group Three Musidora Stakes at York on her previous start and a repeat of that form would give her every chance in this Listed contest.

"She disappointed in France on her third start. She was found to be heavily in season so that could easily have been the reason, but she was disappointing. She ran no race at all," said Palmer.

"I hope that a return to the form of her second start will see her go very close. After that we gave her a break, there was nothing wrong with her and we've built her up for stakes races in the autumn.

"She likes cut in the ground and she should get that at Yarmouth, so fingers crossed."

Palmer is fitting his other runner Al Mayda with a hood in the hope of calming her down after she pulled too hard when last of five behind Empress Ali at Nottingham.

That was only her fourth start and she had got off the mark in a Windsor maiden on her previous outing

"She completely melted at Nottingham and threw away her chance," said the Newmarket handler.

"She behaved incredibly badly and pulled for a mile of the mile and a quarter and still wasn't beaten that far.

"We're putting a hood on her to try to keep her very quiet and hope she can run better, but she's already a winner and if she can get placed it would be great."

Irish interests in the 12-strong field are represented by Beautiful Morning, who was runner-up to Shamreen in the Group Two Blandford Stakes at the Curragh 10 days ago.

Trainer Jessica Harrington is looking forward to the daughter of Galileo putting up a similar display in search of an all-important victory at Listed level.

"She's in great form. If she runs like she did the last day, I think she'll be very competitive and I believe they've had some rain there and I'm happy with that," said Harrington.

"I'm hoping for the best. It would be nice to get a Listed win then we can head on after that."
