Oli Bell best bets for Saturday's TV action

Oli Bell with his best bets for Saturday's feature action on ITV4 - including an 8/1 fancy in the Temple Stakes.

We've got an excellent weekend of racing ahead, with some fascinating contests in the offing. I'll be presenting the afternoon coverage from 1.30pm on ITV4 alongside Francesca Cumani as we bring you live action from Goodwood, Haydock Park and York, with Richi Persad hosting The Opening Show in the morning.

In a change to the format of this column, as of this week I will bring you the horses I like the look of in Saturday's ITV televised races.

As you will no doubt have noticed, the weather this week has been incredible. However, the forecast for Saturday in particular is mixed and therefore ground conditions could very well change.

As it stands, these are the runners I'm keen on, along with mentions for horses that you should take a look at if it does rain:

2pm - Matchbook Betting Exchange Festival Stakes, Goodwood, 1m 1f 197y

Selection: Mount Logan has twice won from four opportunities on his seasonal reappearance and this will be his return to the track after a break.

He's been gelded since last year and we've already seen the benefits of that operation in races on ITV this season. Mount Logan's form last year was pretty strong, including a win over a mile and a half on his comeback run at this meeting - his first for trainer Roger Varian - 12 months ago.

Perhaps some would argue that he's better off at a mile-and-a-half given that victory, but I think last year proved that he was pretty versatile at either a mile-and-a-half or a mile-and-a-quarter.

Alternative: I wouldn't be surprised if Berkshire ran well at a bigger price. He's a talented horse but a bit of a handful at times. If he can channel that - and that's a big if - then his odds could look pretty enticing.

2.20pm - Amix Ready Mixed Concrete Handicap, Haydock, 2m 45y

Selection: My Reward won this race 12 months ago and beat Sir Chauvelin and Yorkidding in a good race at Ripon last time out. He stayed on powerfully over two miles and has made up into a smart stayer.

He likes Haydock, as he showed last year, and he has strong credentials. He won the race last May off the same mark of 93 as he runs off this weekend.

My Reward is coming into the race with those same credentials of a year ago when he was so impressive. There's little to put me off backing him.

Alternative: Swashbuckle will wear cheekpieces for the first time and is one to stay on the right side of for the bang in-form Andrew Balding.

This is a horse that is pretty consistent and did a bit too much too soon under Joshua Bryan when third last time out at Ascot. All things considered, he did well to last as long as he did and be beaten by four-and-a-half lengths.

With the cheekpieces on to help him settle better and earlier, he shouldn't be discounted.

2.40pm - weddingmates.co.uk Grand Cup Stakes, York, 1m 5f 188y

Selection: Frontiersman looked very impressive when he won at Newmarket last time out. On a weekend where the Classics action was the centre of attention, a good number of people left the meeting thinking they had seen the start of a big season for this horse after he triumphed in the Qatar Racing Handicap.

This will be a step up for Frontiersman and he's taking on some experienced horses, but he looks like he has got everything within him to allow him to make that transition.

Alternative: Perhaps give Clever Cookie another chance. He was only just beaten by Dartmouth in the Yorkshire Cup recently and the talk of the track at York was that he needed the run.

In that case, to be beaten by only two-and-a-half lengths in the Group 2 race was an excellent effort and I would write off at your peril the nine-year-old at a track he likes.

2.55pm - Amix Silver Bowl Handicap, Haydock, 1m 37y

Selection: Both of my choices have got big seasons ahead. Mustarrid was second to City Of Joy the last time out at Doncaster. It was only a seven runner handicap but it was a very good handicap at that, with lots of young, talented and unexposed horses in there.

That will prove a form line worth following. The handicapper would agree with that assessment, having raised Mustarrid 4lbs for his defeat.

Alternative: The other horse that I like is Naval Warfare who created a very good impression on me with the style of his victory on his seasonal reappearance at Leicester when he beat Sabador.

He strode out really well that day, he keeps his head down and gallops to the line. There's a lot to like about his attitude and level of performance.

These two will be there or thereabouts in a very competitive handicap.

3.10pm - Winners Are Welcome At Matchbrook Handicap, Goodwood, 7f

Selection: Again using the Doncaster race as a form line, the horse I like in this is Bless Him who has a hood put on for the first time, which will help him.

Jockey Aaron Jones offsets some of his 7lb rise by taking off three and even though he's taking on similarly unexposed and progressive horses, I thought Bless Him's run at Doncaster was one of a horse that's more than capable of winning a handicap with a mark in the 80s.

Alternative: It's worth bearing in mind Horroob with the very talented young apprentice David Egan taking off a very valuable 7lb.

He won his handicap at Lingfield with Jack Mitchell on board with a mark of 86. Horroob has been put up 4lbs for that victory, but looking at it very literally he's carrying less weight in this race than when he was triumphant on his seasonal debut, albeit it that was with a much more experienced jockey in the saddle.

3.30pm - Armstrong Aggregates Sandy Lane Stakes, Haydock, 6f

Selection: This race is all about one horse that I think is a star in the making - the market leader Harry Angel. He's still very raw, inexperienced and a little bit green, but with all that he's also immensely talented.

Harry Angel showed that tremendous ability when he bolted up in a Group 2 at Newbury last September and on his return this year where he was second to the impressive Blue Point at Ascot, earning a penalty in the process.

Clive Cox has not held back in his praise of the horse and I think we could see something special from him on Saturday.

Sportinglife Price Boost: Harry Angel & Washington DC both to win - was 9/1 now 12/1

3.50pm - Unibet Sprint Stakes Handicap, York, 5f

Selection: I like the look of Out Do for David O'Meara and Daniel Tudhope. This horse has won over course and distance and ran well in defeat at Ripon on his seasonal reappearance.

Alternative: I would also consider Taexali at a big price, who ran twice at Chester's May festival. In the first he was incredibly unlucky, beaten by a neck, and I think you can put a line through his run two days later.

He's potentially got the ability to win a handicap off 95 and at long odds I would keep an eye on him.

4.05pm - Armstrong Aggregates Temple Stakes, Haydock, 5f

Selection: As the big race of the day, the card is littered with excellent Group 1 horses. Both of my choices will need the rain to fall for them to be seen at their very best.

The first horse is Kachy for Tom Dascombe and Richard Kingscote. This horse ran really well when a relatively close fourth at Newmarket earlier this month on ground that would've been ideal.

He looked a little bit as if he needed the run, so with fitness now on his side and hopefully a bit of rain in the air I think he will run really well.

Alternative: My other choice is Waady who proved time and time again last year that if there's rain about and the ground's soft he's more than capable of holding his own in top level company.

He was fifth, beaten only by two lengths in last year's King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot on soft ground. I'm taking the chance that the patchy weather forecasted will have an impact on the ground by 4.05pm on Saturday afternoon.
