Jockeys leave the York weighing room

Jump jockeys preparing for Sunday's most valuable race of the summer season at Uttoxeter have a novel way to prepare for the first time this year, thanks to the creation of a five-furlong Flat race restricted to jumps jockeys at York on Saturday.

With no jumps racing scheduled for Britain on Saturday, some will see it as an opportunity to enjoy a day off, but York officials will have been delighted to see 37 entries for the £20,000 Follow Sun Bets On Twitter Jump Jockeys' Nunthorpe.

With the post-race attraction of Olly Murs having already sold out the main enclosures for the meeting, a new one in York's calendar, the racecourse have pushed the boat out to offer new racegoers something different on the track.

The final and longest race of the afternoon, over one and a half miles, is another unusual handicap as it puts female jockeys from across the ranks up against each other. All need to be female riders however, as this a pro-am race where fully fledged professionals can compete against amateurs, as well as apprentices.

The likes of Josephine Gordon, Georgia Cox and Jo Mason have all registered wins on the Knavesmire already this season.
