Peter Naughton Notebook: Eyecatchers and horses to follow from the TV presenter and tipster

Jadoomi made a promising start to his career at Haydock and Peter Naughton reckons he's a colt to follow - check out the latest notebook scribblings.

Protagonist provided an immediate return for the Notebook at Fairyhouse on Friday.

This progressive three-year-old had no trouble carrying a penalty in the 1m2f handicap and is entered again on Friday at Navan. Chasing the leaders, he travelled well in third place before the two-pole and eased to the front, having only to be pushed clear for a comfortable success.

Knowing Protagonist is a well handicapped horse, provides context for those in behind. Therefore, Mythological and Mr Mooj deserve credit for their placed efforts in this event. Mythological remains consistent and I liked the way he battled bravely into second place. There will be no Protagonist in opposition next time.

Mr Mooj was fourth when hampered and losing his position but made progress again over a furlong out and was nearest at the finish. He looks fairly treated off 80.

Staying in Ireland, Iowa deserves plenty of credit for good late work in the 7f maiden at the Curragh on Sunday.

The strong tailwind favoured prominent racers, so this Galileo colt's chance was effectively ruined with a fairly slow start from a moderate draw in stall eight.

In addition, he raced widest in rear before passing horses without ever being able to reach the leaders. Still, this was a very encouraging start from a close relative of Group Two two-year-old winner Royal Dornoch.

Watch Me will benefit greatly from her introductory fourth in the 7f fillies' median auction maiden at Redcar on Saturday.

Breaking well from stall seven, the classy daughter of Dutch Art showed good pace to lead until two-out.

Pushed out when challenged, she was hand-ridden when headed and can build on this opening effort. The filly is a half-sister to 6f winner Moyassar and the dam is a half-sister to Group Two 5f winner Sir Prancealot and French 1m2f Listed winner Nice Applause.

Cheveley Park Stud will be keen to win with her before hopefully progressing into Pattern company.

Burning Cash improved from his recent debut sixth when second to hot favourite Tinochio in the 5f novice at Hamilton on Wednesday.

Paul Midgley has his team in top form and this well regarded juvenile broke alongside the winner and tracked that colt throughout. He travelled well and had little trouble reversing form with Stitcher, who had the benefit of two outings.

Burning Cash should win a race or two this term and looks capable of landing a maiden.

Across the card, Jadoomi made a very pleasing debut when third behind hot favourite Devious Company in the 7f novice at Haydock.

Simon and Ed Crisford's well-bred son of Holy Roman Emperor cost 75,000 euros as a yearling and is related to Pattern-class winners.

Tracking the winner, he was ridden over two-out but was never able to obtain a clear run.

He followed Devious Company all the way up the straight but his path on the outer was blocked. He kept on nicely and will improve for this encouraging experience.

The winner is due to step up to Group company in the Superlative Stakes this month, so this is strong novice form.
