Aidan O'Brien trained filly Minding suffers setback

Minding has suffered a setback that will rule her out of action for most of the summer, a spokesman for her owners Coolmore told Press Association Sport.

The brilliant filly was a hot favourite to win an eighth Group One in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh on Sunday but plans are now on hold.

Minding will also miss Royal Ascot, where she holds entries in the Queen Anne Stakes and the Prince Of Wales's Stakes.

O'Brien is hoping she has recovered from the setback by the end of August.

The four-year-old daughter of Galileo had an extraordinary season in 2016, with victories in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, the Investec Oaks at Epsom and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot.

Five Group One triumphs during her three-year-old campaign also saw her crowned 2016 Cartier Horse of the Year.

O'Brien fires three-pronged assault

O'Brien will fire a three-pronged assault at the Tattersalls Gold Cup in a bid to win the Group One prize for a record seventh time at the Curragh on Sunday.

Brilliant filly Minding was due to be O'Brien's main hope for this year's renewal, but a setback has ruled her out of the race.

The Ballydoyle handler instead relies upon recent Huxley Stakes winner Deauville, Johannes Vermeer and Somehow, who turns out just eight days after finishing fourth in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury.

It will be Somehow's fourth appearance in less than a month.

Roger Charlton, who won the Tattersalls Gold Cup twice with Al Kazeem (2013 and 2015) is represented by Group One scorer Decorated Knight, the only British representative in the eight-strong field.

Success Days was considered unlikely to run earlier in the week but he has now been declared by Ken Condon.

The Jim Bolger-trained Moonlight Magic, Joseph O'Brien's Reckless Gold and Gentil J from Harry Rogers' stable complete the line-up.
