Trainer Martyn Meade calls temporary halt with bug in the yard

Martyn Meade has called a temporary halt to the season for his team as his horses recover from a bug in the yard.

The Manton trainer has had just four runners in the last two weeks, with Advertise's lacklustre outing in the 2000 Guineas and Technician's disappointing run at Chester last week prompting him to briefly "pull stumps".

Technician was the yard's most recent runner six days ago, and Meade hopes to have his horses back in the mix towards the end of next week.

He said: "I think we're just having a quiet time with everything - we haven't been running anything for the last few days.

"Advertise was not right in the Guineas, and Technician wasn't either when he ran at Chester last week, so we have just pulled stumps - and all the horses are on the easy list."

They should soon be back on track, however.

"We're about halfway through that process now," Meade added.

"We just seem to have picked up a sort of virus somewhere, I think, and the only thing you can do is ease back.

"It's nothing you can put your finger on - they look fantastic and they are doing everything at home, but you can't tell which ones are affected until they are under pressure on a racecourse.

"I would think it will be the end of next week (before the yard has runners again)."
