Man On The Spot previews Saturday's Pick 7 races

Our resident tipster Man On The Spot previews the races that comprise Saturday's free to play £100,000 Pick 7 game.

2.30 Haydock - Betfred Rose Of Lancaster Stakes

Three-year-olds have won the last two runnings of this Group 3 and LARAAIB can extend the dominance of the classic generation. Owen Burrows’ unbeaten colt steps up from handicaps but is improving at a rate of knots and should be well up to the task. Euginio also won a handicap last time but doesn’t have as much scope as the selection. Frankuus was behind Spark Plug at Sandown two runs ago and the latter was only third when tried in this grade last year. Mount Logan may also be outside of his comfort zone but Autocratic won the Brigadier Gerard in May, though has a penalty for that and the form hasn’t worked out. Francis Of Assisi won tough handicaps in Australia at the end of last year but how that form equates is anybody’s guess and he has an absence to overcome.

2.35 Newmarket - Royal British Legion Nursery

Dragons Tail will be no pushover as he continues to run well but the 6lb he has to concede to the less-exposed MUTANAASEQ may prove beyond him. Richard Hannon’s colt won a couple of times over 5f in the spring and should be even better over this longer trip if taking after his dam. Gold Town was third over course and distance last month so is respected but Thirsk third Fleeting Freedom could find this opposition too tough.

3.00 Haydock - Betfred Duke Of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry Handicap

Having won a Thirsk maiden earlier, EL CAP just failed to overhaul Zodiakos off a 9lb higher mark at Beverley. He’s gone up another 3lb since but can still get the better of York runner-up Fingal's Cave, who is probably better over 7f. Calder Prince is in good form and has a very respectable record over course and distance. He won here last month and is a danger to all while Two For Two is only 2lb higher than when successful at Ayr last month and still well treated on past form. Mustarrid can probably be forgiven his latest run at Ascot and is another with decent claims.

3.05 Newmarket - German Young Owners And Breeders Handicap

It might be worth sticking with ANYTHINGTODAY in his current mood. He makes a quick reappearance under a penalty after winning at Bath on Wednesday and won here the time before when Ay Ay was back in fifth. Atkinson Grimshaw wasn’t disgraced in his hat-trick bid here last month but both victories have been achieved on a quick surface. Thundering Blue got off the mark at the tenth attempt at Epsom but has more to do here off a 7lb higher mark. Eddystone Rock and Speed Company are capable but pretty much exposed.

3.35 Haydock - Betfred TV/EBF Stallions Dick Hern Stakes

Another pattern race which three-year-olds have dominated in recent years. Queen of Time finished a place ahead of Dancing Breeze in this grade at Sandown last month but SEA OF GRACE has her sights lowered having performed with credit in Group 1 races at Deauville and Newmarket in her last two starts. She won a Group 3 at the Curragh last year when trained by John Oxx and should take all the beating. Mittens had Materialistic behind when a close-up fifth last time at Ascot and is closely matched with Queen of Time and Dancing Breeze on that form. The four-year-olds have it all to do against the younger fillies.

3.40 Newmarket - German-Thoroughbred.com Sweet Solera Stakes

A very competitive Group 3 which sees Listed winner Dance Diva bid to get back on track after finding Nyaleti much too good in the Princess Margaret at Ascot – she holds another Listed winner, Tajaanus, on the form book. Jousi is improving and Capla Temptress is two from two while Mamba Noire steps up a furlong after placed efforts in a Group 3 at the Curragh and a Group 2 here last month. Mayyasah made a winning debut at Newbury but neither the second nor third franked the form next time. POETIC CHARM won nicely here last month, beating both Juliet Capulet and Jousi in the process. Sister to a useful winning miler, she’s also a half-sister to the brilliant Teofilo and has a Group 1 entry next month so gets the vote.

4.15 Newmarket - BBAG-sales.de Handicap

KHAMAARY (NAP) may face a battle for the lead from That Is The Spirit, who is back in handicap company, and Leicester scorer Easy Tiger while Von Blucher also likes to be prominent. But Mark Johnston’s improving filly bolted up when encountering soft ground for the first time at Lingfield and might be capable of shrugging off a 6lb rise. Gulliver got hopelessly outpaced over 6f at Yarmouth on his reappearance but stayed on strongly in the closing stages and the extra furlong will suit. War Glory has yet to win on Turf but is slipping down the weights and should find a race before the end of the season.
