Man On The Spot best bets for Newcastle on Monday

Check out our race-by-race verdicts and nap selection for Monday's meeting at Newcastle.

3.20

Racing over 1m6f in Listed company proved beyond UTILE at Bath last time. Rated 92 having made a winning start at Kempton with a subsequent winner back in second, Hugo Palmer’s filly is clear of these at the weights and the one to beat. Amtiyaz went close at Chelmsford last time and looks next best as the remainder have yet to threaten while the newcomer Going Underground has already been gelded and is fitted with a tongue-tie for his debut.

3.55

GEORGE RIDSDALE went close at Ayr bidding for a hat-trick. Mick Easterby’s charge had earlier finished well ahead of Stand Free when scoring over course and distance and the latter has subsequently placed back here. Clifftop Heaven won over track and trip with Violette Szabo back in third last time and is another to consider while Armed has tumbled down the weights and finished closer at Windsor last time. Sacred Belief looks no nearer winning and Black Star Dancing has plenty to find with the selection.

4.30

Corked finished runner-up in a higher grade contest here last time and is preferred to Gold Standard, who is regularly placed but has just the one win in 16 starts. PUCKLE completed a double at Beverley in August and was having only her second outing on the all-weather when runner-up at Wolverhampton. Mark Johnston’s filly looks up to winning off her current mark and gets the vote. Stittenham Wood has run a couple of shockers since scoring over track and trip while G For Gabrial has improved over shorter trips recently, though is back on a winning mark.

5.00

MERITORIOUS was given a rest after a poor debut effort and ran a much better race at Newmarket last time when runner-up ahead of a subsequent winner. The Gosden colt is taken to go one better, though Trevolli ran well for fourth at Salisbury and steps up in trip along with Cape Horn. Of the newcomers, Manassas and Movin Time share ownership with the former costing a million guineas as a half-brother to five winners including the high-class pair Without Parole and Tamarkuz. Rebel's Romance and Tio Mio are others to note.

5.30

Dazzling Des won a lower grade sprint at Lingfield and Kind Review is also upped in class having won over 6f here. Another Angel went close again last time having scored over track and trip last month but dual novice winner Lua De Mel struggled at Leicester back in July, though should do better back on the all-weather today. DUKE OF FIRENZE may not be the force of old but finally showed the benefit of a slide down the weights when beaten only a nose at Wolverhampton and the veteran still looks capable of winning at this level on that evidence.

6.00

A couple of these bid for hat-tricks. Rogue Tide is 4lb higher after winning at Wolverhampton last week but TRAVELLER returned a more convincing winner to complete a course and distance double and Antony Brittain’s charge is taken to defy a penalty. Bringitonboris finished in front of Custard The Dragon when runner-up here last time and can race off the same mark while Nat Love is another with a chance having just missed out at Lingfield. Twisted Dreams won a lower grade contest over 7f at the track and is upped 5lb.

6.30

Imperial Butterfly has been raised 5lb for winning over track and trip and the less-exposed ASK THE WIND (NAP) makes more appeal. The latter finished runner-up in a tougher contest at Goodwood on her handicap debut and Tony Carroll’s filly can come out best with any further progress. Typical Man is another with scope on only his second start handicapping but Fae The Port was still beaten seven lengths when second at Beverley and Dark Zeas steps up in distance after placing at Ayr.

7.00

Daphne May won a nursery at Kempton last month but was well beaten back in novice company last time. Party Rebel never threatened on her handicap debut at Yarmouth but KARTVELIAN was doing her best work at the finish when a close-up fourth over 6f at Kempton. This extra distance should suit on that evidence and James Fanshawe’s filly may prove the one to side with now handicapping. The Fast Lion and Hear Me Roar are others worthy of a second glance on their handicap debuts.

7.30

Cmon Cmon bids for a course and distance hat-trick though meets The Mackem Torpedo on worse terms. The latter has subsequently finished runner-up here again to the in-form Traveller, who runs earlier on the card, while the latter also beat Trumpets Call here last week. GUMRA was hampered at the start on her handicap debut at Kempton and also failed to get a clear run in the closing stages. She can figure here with normal luck in-running while Aqaareb is also unexposed and could go well.
