Napping in winning action

Resident tipster Man On The Spot looks ahead to each race at Lingfield on Friday evening, including a Nap selection.

Elhafei’s only win 21 starts so far came over a shorter trip on the all-weather track here and the runner-up Nafaayes re-opposes on better terms. What Will Be is also worse off with Beirut having beaten the latter when scoring over 1m6f at Chelmsford recently while Mr Chua has undergone wind surgery since last seen in action and makes his handicap debut on the Flat. SPRING RUN failed to see out the 2m trip at Kempton last time but won over course and distance before that and with more to come from Jonathan Portman’s filly this year, she gets the vote to make a winning return.

SAMPERS SEVEN (NAP) has yet to race on Turf but was having only her second outing for Mick Appleby when scoring by three lengths at Chelmsford last week. Due to be raised by 3lb more than today’s penalty, she looks to have leading claims and can go in again. Autumn Trail won a maiden at Chelmsford before going close on the all-weather here on her handicap debut and is preferred to Buy Me Back, whose earlier success at Kempton came over a longer trip. Capla Spirit won a novices' race at Southwell in March but has since finished behind the selection.

LOCKET has the best form of these having shown promise when third at Redcar on her recent debut. David O’Meara’s filly can open her account with Oisin Murphy taking over the reins. Relative Choice finished in front of Sayifyouwill when fourth over the minimum trip at Goodwood and this extra distance will suit while Boot Scootin Baby finished closer at Windsor last time and is another upped in trip. Better is expected from Beverage today while A Day Of Mischief is related to a winning sprinter and fellow newcomer Bahia Star is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Beshaayir.

Without a win on the all-weather, NAPPING has now won four of only eight starts on the Turf having scored at Windsor earlier in the week and 4lb extra may not be enough to prevent Amy Murphy’s mare from going in again given today’s modest opposition. Under Curfew has a poor strike rate with his only win so far coming over the minimum trip on the all-weather while Good Answer also scored over 5f when successful at Bath last year. Wild Dancer has won over 7f here in the past but Fairy Fast still looks too high in the weights.

Bartat won at Bath off a higher mark last term though Spurofthemoment is preferred fitted with a tongue-tie having placed in both starts since returning to action. Princess Mayson found one too good over 7f at Yarmouth last time and Broughtons Compass finished closer over the same distance at Chelmsford. Come On Girl drops in class and can figure but CRAIGBURN won at Thirsk last season and, after finishing runner-up off today’s mark at Yarmouth on her reappearance, may just edge this representing Tom Clover’s in-form yard.

ADDITIONAL was beaten less than a length when third over today’s trip at Yarmouth on his debut. The first two home are both rated 89 and Martyn Meade’s colt looks the one to side with on that form despite a high draw. Vape went close at Haydock on his return and should go well again while Richard Hannon runs two with Grande Rumore finishing in front of Lamorna on the all-weather here last time and Afro Blue dropping down in class on his reappearance. Discover Dubai is a likely improver with the Godolphin colt preferred to the likes of Mr Beau Blue and Silver Cliffs.

Glen Force was placed at Haydock when sent off favourite on his comeback while Karibana found only one too good at Kempton last time. Spreadsheet ran well at Chelmsford when last in action and has undergone wind surgery subsequently but it could pay to stick with INHALATION. The latter has been raised 8lb for winning at Yarmouth on his handicap debut but returned a clear winner and Oisin Murphy’s presence suggests there’s plenty more to come. Stoweman and Mr Jones And Me should be winning handicaps before long though both have been absent since last year.

A couple of these carry 4lb extra but have won off higher marks in the past. In The Red completed a double at Kempton with last week’s success but hasn’t scored on Turf since 2017 and FIELDSMAN is just preferred. The latter won at Chepstow earlier in the week and with an apprentice’s allowance negating today’s penalty, Tony Carroll’s charge may come out best once again. The Stalking Moon remains 6lb higher than when scoring at Leicester in September while Harlequin Rose has recorded all three wins so far at Brighton and Yarmouth third Amaretto has yet to win on Turf.
