Check out our race-by-race verdicts and nap selection for Friday's meeting at Dieppe.
10.30 (All times BST, live on Sky Sports Racing): Runner-up Zialight didn’t frank the form of GARANCE FOREVER’s hurdles win at Auteuil in March last week but it is still difficult to get away from Guillaume Macaire’s filly in this as she makes her chasing bow. Sacre Coeur wasn’t beaten far when fourth on her chasing debut at Toulouse 12 days ago and looks a danger and La Bondue still has plenty of scope. Shannon Vale Rose had a couple of runs over the larger obstacles at Fontainebleau in the autumn but is held by Blain and Golden Park on her form over hurdles.
11.00: Several of these are jumps-bred. Giorgina is by Kapgarde and Francois Nicolle runs Lola Oak and Lina Rez, who are daughters of Martaline. The same sire was responsible for CRAZY MARTA and she has hurdling experience on her side, finishing a promising fourth at Compiegne 11 days ago. She’s a half-sister to winners on the Flat and over hurdles and could be another winner for a top yard that is well represented on today’s card.
11.30: George Flash won easily at Cagnes-Sur-Mer in December but, like Jimble Moon, it will be a surprise if he is able to upstage the Nicolle quartet. A winning miler on the Flat, BORN TO HOLD has taken to hurdles like a duck to water and is on a hat-trick. He was particularly impressive when landing the odds at Toulouse last time and can get the better of Je Deviens Moi, who is also chasing a three-timer but hasn’t raced since November. Terra Ricca is preferred to Normandy Dela Vega of the others.
12.00: Gordon Pym is conceding weight all round but is a consistent sort and it would be no surprise to see him make the frame again. Stable companion Peps De Lune also has place claims while this is a big drop in grade for Zuckerberg, who ran in a Listed hurdle at Auteuil last week. However, the latter had just a neck to spare of GARIBAL over fences at Pau in January and Gab Leenders’ charge is now 4l better off so entitled to turn the tables if fully wound-up for his first start since. Guatemala Le Dun was second at Toulouse in February so can’t be ignored.
12.30: Kaliningrad was quite highly tried on debut in March and should be capable of better. James Reveley rides him rather than Flat-bred stablemate Nobody Knows but SAINT EX makes more appeal. Angelo Zuilani’s mount is a half-brother to a winning stayer on the Flat so should make a hurdler. His trainer also runs Hacker Des Places, who is worth a market check, but Morgenstern will probably need to improve on his form at Compiegne and was only a plater on the level.
13.07: Flying Startandco finished ahead of Flute Des Champs in a Listed contest at Compiegne 11 days ago but is unlikely to be the stable’s first choice in this. A winner in this grade over hurdles in November, HELL BOY (NAP) had no problem opening his account over fences in March at the first time of asking. He’s improved out of all recognition over the last 12 months and his winning run is unlikely to be halted in this. Edgeoy has bags of chasing experience and beat the smart Ebonite in a Grade 3 at Auteuil in October, though ran poorly behind that rival on his reappearance in March and is giving the selection 5lb.
13.41: Several of these are returning from long spells on the sidelines, including Pesk Ebrel and Opium. Farnice is probably having a confidence-booster but did win twice in Grade 3 company over fences last year so has the ability to win a race like this. ROCK THE RACE’s last victory came in a Listed handicap at Auteuil in 2016 but a fifth at Fontainebleau in March blew away a few cobwebs and he was third at Moulins 10 days ago. It will be a surprise if he’s not in the firing-line today under a competent 9lb claimer.
14.15: It’s easy to see why most of these have ended up in a claimer. The defection of Royal Navy Warship has muddied the waters a little as BOWLER HAT was only sixth behind that one at Fontainebleau in February. Florent Bayle’s mount won at Cagnes-Sur-Mer earlier, however, and has an excellent chance of a second victory of the year in a race like this. Soldier's Queen is likely to be thereabouts again and last year’s Clairefontaine winner Comeken also warrants a mention.
14.49: King Of Run was beaten less than a length by Enna Pietra at Auteuil in February and is 5lb better off. Candos was fifth in that race and Master Dan was even further behind so there are possibilities about the bottom weight in this. Compiegne third Happy Business also goes on the shortlist as he attempts to win at the eighth time of asking. Shayandi has won twice on the Flat since last seen over hurdles while Colonel D'aumont has decent form over timber and fences. We’ll take a chance on KROISSANT BLEU, who was just behind the latter at Cagnes-Sur-Mer in January but performed better at Auteuil the following month when ahead of King Of Run.
