AXDAVALI showed promise when runner-up at Chantilly on his recent debut with the re-opposing Chant D'automne well beaten and should be winning at this level on that evidence. The selection was beaten at Chantilly by a horse trained by Andrea Marcialis and the latter runs the newcomer Ethiopia in this. She’s a half-sister to three winners and preferred to First Folio and Comporta of the newcomers while Magic Sword looks a likely improver representing Jo Hughes’ yard.

PENNY WHISTLE is penalised for making a winning debut earlier in the month when scoring by a couple of lengths at Angers with Success Story back in third. She’s taken to confirm running and go in again. Rose Gold will be winning soon judged on a promising debut effort at Chantilly when beaten less than a length with Rue D'aumale and Call Sign behind. She looks a threat with Jubilation perhaps best of the newcomers.

FAROUT returned to action with a success at Vichy on his handicap debut and beat both By The Way and La Javanaise in the process. There should be plenty more to come from Francis Graffard’s colt over today’s trip and he’s preferred to the more exposed Youmdor. The latter finished ahead of Lionel when second in a handicap at Saint-Cloud and has a shout on that form while several are worth noting handicapping for the first time. Lord Wellington had the measure of Mystery Road when runner-up at Chantilly and Sous Les Nuages represents Andre Fabre’s powerful yard while Christophe Soumillon gets the leg-up on Project Fear.

A runner-up in Group 3 company at Longchamp on his reappearance, the Coolmore-owned OCEAN ATLANTIQUE gave the impression this extra distance will suit and Andre Fabre’s colt gets the vote to go one better. Irska is unbeaten having added to a debut success with this month’s victory in a conditions race at Saint-Cloud. She should go well at this level while Hayzum beat Nobody's at Longchamp last year though both have come up short in Listed races subsequently. Alfareeq finished ahead of Lord Achilles when fifth at Saint-Cloud recently but has more to find in this grade.

A tricky Listed event with most of these fillies open to improvement. But GOLDEN CROWN just missed out at Chantilly earlier in the month and gets a tentative vote to confirm running with fourth-placed Bionic Woman. The latter will be sharper for that outing while new stablemate Shenouni, a winner in Germany, debuts for Andre Fabre and Chorba is another likely to finish closer for the Rouget yard. Miss Extra won a handicap at Longchamp on her return but was beaten by Honey Cake on the all-weather track here back in December while Secret Time went close in a Group 3 contest last year.

French King won at the highest level in Germany in 2019 and claimed the massive prize-money on offer for The Amir Trophy in Qatar on his return to action in February. He should confirm latest running with Royal Julius and go close in this but the latter has subsequently finished behind runner-up Way To Paris in a Group 2 over a shorter trip at Longchamp where Villa Rosa and Folamour also finished behind. ZIYAD (NAP) beat the latter in Listed company last year and went on to land a Group 2 over course and distance before going very close in the Woodbine International in October. Carlos Laffon-Parias’ charge made a winning return at Chantilly in March and is fancied to come out best in this.

Most of these ran in a Group 3 sprint at Longchamp earlier in the month when BATWAN came out on top. Another bold bid is expected today given that was his first outing since finishing runner-up in the same Longchamp race last year to Sestilio Jet. The latter and Gold Vibe filled the places behind the selection last time and neither can be easily ruled out while fourth-placed Red Torch finished with a late flourish but may find himself off the pace early in the race once again. Ken Colt, Tour To Paris and We Go all finished further behind while Euryale won at Chantilly in March but this is much tougher and Finsbury Square hasn’t raced since October.

The betting should offer some clues but CALCULATING has a middle-distance pedigree and Pascal Bary’s charge may be the one to side with. Rushdy is related to a couple of Group 3 winners but over shorter trips though his dam scored over 1m1f while the Godolphin charge Remorse is a half-brother to winning sprinters with an apprentice’s allowance helping his cause. Pierre-Charles Boudot partners Will Power and the latter is preferred to Salento and Noliver.

ALIKOVA is a daughter of the brilliant Goldikova and a full-sister to a Group 3 winner. Freddie Head’s filly makes most appeal of these newcomers and gets the vote. Flaming Rouge is a US-bred $650,000 purchase related to no-less than eight winners including stakes winners on the Turf. She should give the selection something to think about while Vaucelles, Epaignes and Fraoula are all the progeny of Le Havre with preference for the former partnered by Christophe Soumillon.

A couple of these stand out from the rest including Kongastet, placed on his last couple of outings including over today’s trip at Vichy earlier in the week. But VERITAS looks to have the stronger form having been beaten less than a length at Chantilly on his first start since November and Andre Fabre’s colt looks the one to side with in this. Princess Lea won in the provinces back in February though has been beaten since while Ajsaman finished behind the selection at Chantilly back in March.
