Ed Walker is leaning towards sending English King to Paris for a re-match with his Investec Derby conqueror Serpentine.
A brilliant winner of the Lingfield Derby Trial, the son of Camelot was unable to land a blow when fifth at Epsom and was beaten again in the John Pearce Racing Gordon Stakes at Goodwood last week.
However the trainer believes he'll be a different horse on a more conventional track with the St Leger at Doncaster also under consideration.
"He's in great form and came out of Goodwood really well. He probably didn't quicken down the hill very well there," Walker told ITV Racing.
"At Lingfield where he won so impressively he didn't get racing until they were on the level. At Epsom and Goodwood he slightly loses his way when accelerating coming down a hill then comes good when he meets the rising ground.
"We're looking forward to getting him on a flat, galloping track and all being well he'll go for the Grand Prix de Paris or St Leger. We're not sure which one yet, ground will come into play. I'm very confident he'll stay the St Leger trip but I don't want to write him off as a top-class mile-and-a-half horse yet.
"I'm still very keen to go to Paris and prove he's good enough to beat those guys."
