Heartache team still on a high after Royal Ascot win

Connections of Heartache are still on cloud nine following her stunning display in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot on Wednesday.

Connections of Heartache are still on cloud nine following her stunning display in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot on Wednesday.

Wesley Ward's American challenger Happy Like A Fool was a red-hot favourite for the five-furlong Group Two, but she proved no match for Clive Cox's runaway Bath scorer Heartache.

The victory sparked scenes of wild celebration in the famous winner's enclosure from the large band of owners that make up the Hot To Trot Syndicate.

Racing manager Sam Hoskins said: "It was absolutely fantastic and the filly has come out of the race absolutely fine.

"It was an amazing day and so exciting. There are 75 people who have a share in her and many of them told me it was the best day of their lives.

"With all the chat about the American filly beforehand, I kind of thought the rest of us were running for second, but I think we beat her fair and square.

"Clive always felt she was a good filly, but I don't think any of us dreamed she'd be this good."

A potential clash with her elders in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York was mooted as a potential target for Heartache in the immediate aftermath of her victory, but no firm plans have been made just yet.

"I'm not sure where she'll go next. We'll enjoy this victory first and take it from there," said Hoskins.

"We don't actually own the filly ourselves, we lease her from Whitsbury Manor Stud, so hopefully they keep hold of her and we can continue the relationship."
