Laura Mongan has been dealt a big blow with the news St Leger winner Harbour Law will not run again this season.
The four-year-old provided one of the feel-good stories of 2016 when scoring at Doncaster under George Baker.
He was some way below that form first time out in the Sagaro Stakes at Ascot, but bounced right back to his best when third in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot on Thursday.
Mongan was eagerly looking forward to the rest of the campaign, but the Epsom handler told Press Association Sport: "I'm afraid to say he picked up an injury in the Gold Cup and he won't be running again this season.
"We were so excited after the race as he ran so well. It's so frustrating but we'll get him back.
"He tried his heart out. Maybe the ground was a bit quick for him.
"It's a tendon injury, it's not too serious but it just needs time.
"A few little things weren't right at Ascot first time out but we had him 110 per cent for the Gold Cup.
"We went from a massive high on Thursday because he'd run such a good race to an incredible low on Friday.
"We'll look after him, he's only young and he's lightly raced so he'll come back."
