Team David O'Meara won the Tom O'Ryan Memorial Tipping Challenge

Team David O'Meara won the Tom O'Ryan Memorial Tipping Challenge as the Sky Bet Go Racing In Yorkshire Festival came to an end at Pontefract.

The charity fund, to be split equally between the Injured Jockey Fund, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and New Beginnings, swelled to over £4,000. Dividing such a total isn't easy, though, so Sky Bet bumped up the pot to £6,000.

"Our team of tipsters, myself included, did our best but we felt the charities deserved a little more than we managed to win so we've rounded the figure up to £6000," said Sky Bet's horse racing PR manager Michael Shinners.

"It's a bit of fun for three terrific causes and we'll be delighted to hand over the big cheques in due course. The tipping competition has now raised over £35,000 over the years.

"It's been a brilliant week, from Ripon to Pontefract and everything in between.

"We saw some excellent winners of the Sky Bet Dash and Sky Bet York Stakes in Flying Pursuit and Success Days on Saturday and all of our Yorkshire tracks have really put on a good show.

"Everyone seems to have enjoyed themselves and we can't wait to do it all again next year."

Final Total: (Rounded up to) £6,000 to be split equally between the Injured Jockey Fund, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and New Beginnings.

* The competition carries the name of Tom O'Ryan, the award-winning journalist and broadcaster who was a regular contestant in it over the years.

Last year Sky Bet's tipping challenge raised £6,000 for three charities: the Injured Jockey Fund, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and New Beginnings, the Yorkshire-based racehorse retraining charity.

Since it started in 2012, the challenge has raised almost £30,000. This year our betting partners Sky Bet are offering £8,100 in charity bets to the nine contestants, who are each given £100 to stake per day during the Go Racing In Yorkshire Summer Festival. The winnings are divided between the three charities.
