It's a busy week for ITV Racing's main presenter but he has a banker double for Royal Ascot, starting with a Godolphin filly in the Queen Mary.
FINAL SONG Queen Mary Stakes (2.30 Wednesday)
I’m really looking forward to seeing Saeed bin Suroor’s filly in action again. She made a deep impression when winning on debut at this track last moth, making the running, travelling well and quickening five lengths clear of runner-up Mrs Flanders.
That form is already working out well and she has the scope and pedigree to take another significant step forward here.
She’s fancied to get the better of Winari, an American raider for Wesley Ward and we’ve all seen what they’re capable of in the past through the exploits of Acapulco and Lady Aurelia in this very race.
SIR RON PRIESTLEY King George VI Stakes (5.35 Thursday)
Mark Johnston has won this six times, including with Baghdad last season, and has another likely candidate in this son of Australia.
He improved going up in trip to open his account in a novice stakes at Ripon in April. The handicapper gave him an opening mark of 86 which proved very lenient as he toyed with his rivals when sent off at 1/2 at Haydock.
He’s up eight pounds for that win but had any amount in hand and is a horse to keep on your side, not only this week but for the rest of the season.
