Globetrotter Desert Encounter set for Bahrain test

Desert Encounter may bid to add to his seven-figure earnings next month as connections contemplate a crack at the inaugural running of the Bahrain International Trophy.

David Simcock's seven-year-old, owned by Abdulla Al Mansoori, took his prize-money tally past the million-pound mark when winning the Canadian International for the second year running at Woodbine on Saturday.

More air miles could well be on the agenda too, for a shot at the valuable prize in the Middle East.

"The owner is very keen to run Desert Encounter in the Bahrain International Trophy on November 22," said Newmarket trainer Simcock.

"We will see how he is when he returns from Toronto, but the Bahrain race is definitely under consideration."

Exactly half of the 46 entries are from Britain and also include Charlie Hills' Afaak, the Alan King-trained Beringer and Pivoine from Andrew Balding's stable.
