Sovereign Debt goes for Diomed defence at Epsom

Sovereign Debt is likely to defend his crown in the Investec Diomed Stakes as long as there is enough ease in the ground at Epsom on Saturday.

Trainer Ruth Carr reports the popular nine-year-old grey to be in good form and is keen for him to attempt to repeat last year's victory in the Group Three contest.

"He seems all right. Hopefully the ground will stay on the easy side. As long as it does, he'll run," said the North Yorkshire handler.

Another past winner Arod, successful in 2015, is among the 12 entries. His trainer David Simcock has also put in last season's Lennox Stakes scorer Breton Rock.

Gabrial, runner-up 12 months ago, is one of two possibles from Richard Fahey's stable along with Another Touch.

The one Irish-trained entry is Johnny Murtagh's True Valour.

Anna Nerium, who was a respectable seventh behind her Richard Hannon-trained stablemate Billesdon Brook, is among 12 entries for the Group Three Princess Elizabeth Stakes.

Winner of the Listed European Free Handicap at Newmarket on her previous start, Anna Nerium is one of two three-year-olds in the list. The other is Dance Diva from the Fahey yard.

Other smart fillies and mares in the mix include Lincoln Rocks, Urban Fox and Wilamina, while Diaphora, trained in Germany by Markus Klug, adds international interest.

Thirty speedsters remained in the Investec Corporate Banking 'Dash' Handicap at the five-day confirmation stage for which the maximum field is 20.

They include Caspian Prince, winner of this race in 2014, 2016 and 2017, Desert Law, who was successful in 2015, and 2013 victor Duke Of Firenze.
