Ebor Festival 2017: Horse-by-horse guide and verdict for the Darley Yorkshire Oaks on day two at York
15:35 · THU August 24, 2017
Enable is the star performer in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks at York on Thursday August 24 and we have a horse-by-horse guide to the race.
The feature race on the second day of the Welcome To Yorkshire Ebor Festival takes place at 1535 BST, and you can watch the action from York unfold live on ITV 1 from 1330-1600 BST, with coverage presented by Sporting Life ambassador Ed Chamberlin.
Here we run through all the runners, their form and our verdict...
Running well since winning a Listed race at Pontefract with top three finishes in a Group Three and a Group Two and connections will be hoping for similar here.
Nezwaah - Form: 1527-11 T: R Varian J: Andrea Atzeni
Dual Listed winner proved herself to be a top performer when winning the Group One Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh over 10 furlongs last time. Having her first run beyond that trip and while stamina shouldn't be an issue, the red-hot favourite will be.
Queen's Trust - Form: 331-446 T: Sir Michael Stoute J: Jim Crowley
Finished third in last year's renewal before going on to win at the Breeders' Cup. Running every bit as well this season with the testing conditions possibly not ideal at Goodwood when only sixth in the Nassau Stakes behind Winter. Wednesday's rain therefore not ideal but otherwise she has strong place claims.
Alluringly - Form: 123661 T: A P O'Brien J: R L Moore
Has twice been beaten by more than 10 lengths by Enable and has also been soundly thrashed by Coronet. Horses can gain confidence from winning so her victory at Gowran will have done no harm but up against it on all known form.
Coronet - Form: 11-3514 T: J H M Gosden J: O Peslier
Talented filly who handles soft ground but beaten by her stablemate in the English and Irish Oaks and absolutely no reason why she should be able to reverse the form.
Enable - Form: 1-31111 T: J H M Gosden J: L Dettori
Dual Oaks winner and the standout performer of her generation having won the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. If she lines up in peak form then she will be impossible to beat and even if she doesn't, she might well still win.
Impossible to get away from Enable for all that some of her rivals bring top-class Group One form to the table. The daughter of Nathaniel has looked an exceptional performer though and won't need to be at her best to win. If conditions don't dry out too much perhaps Coronet, who might be ridden to pick up the pieces, can chase her home.
