Speedo Boy has improved on the Flat this summer

David Ord looks ahead to the action on Saturday with the Ian Williams-trained Speedo Boy backed to strike at Cheltenham.

Sporting Life Daily Nap, November 17

  • Nap: Speedo Boy (3.30 Cheltenham)
  • Next Best: Theatre Territory (1.15 Cheltenham)
  • Treble: Corinthia Knight (3.15 Lingfield)

The Ian Williams-trained SPEEDO BOY is thoroughly unexposed over timber heading into the BetVictor Intermediate Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham.

He’s only had three starts under National Hunt rules, winning at Huntingdon before seemingly all-at-sea on testing ground behind Apple’s Shakira at this corresponding meeting 12 months ago.

He’s since shown improved form on the Flat, finishing sixth in the Cesarewitch and third in a valuable heat at York, and will relish the good ground and step up in trip here. He’s potentially very well handicapped from a mark of 118.

Theatre Territory is backed to win the Mallardjewellers.com Novices' Chase.

Sam Waley-Cohen enjoyed a big win in the family silks on The Young Master on Friday and this mare gets weight from the boys, something trainer Warren Greatrex has already exploited with La Bague Au Roi at Newbury.

Theatre Territory has had a wind operation over the summer and could just find enough improvement to break her duck over fences, something long overdue based on last year's efforts in good company.

Gifted Master is arguably weighted to win a second Betway Golden Rose Stakes at Lingfield, but ready preference is for Corinthia Knight who looks well berthed in stall two under Hollie Doyle.

Archie Watson’s speedball has been on his travels since winning the valuable 3 Year Old All-Weather Championships Conditions Stakes over course and distance on Good Friday and it hasn’t always been plain sailing, suffering quite heavy defeats in France and Canada. However, he has shown up much better on his last two starts, chasing home Verne Castle at Chelmsford and then posting a good third at Bro Park in Sweden.

He should love a return to Lingfield, where he’s unbeaten in two previous visits, and looks a really solid prospect for a tight race in which his main market rival is posted out in stall 10.
