Matt Brocklebank heads to Ireland for the best bet on Thursday with Billy Lee fancied to ride a winner at Tipperary.
Sporting Life Daily Nap, April 25
It could be worth taking a chance on Andrew Oliver’s THE PHANTOM PUNCH on his seasonal reappearance in the Visit Tipperary Handicap (6.40) on Thursday.
The son of Canford Cliffs hasn’t put it all together on turf yet, but he’s shown at Dundalk that he has ability (he’s rated 72 on the all-weather) and off 56 the handicapper has given him a chance on the grass.
There were glimpses of promise off 62 on his last two runs on turf last season, when he was a four-length ninth of 23 at Navan before he ran on well from the back at Galway over seven furlongs.
Stepping back up to 1m1f looks a good move on that evidence and he did run over 1m4f a few times at the start of his career, so stamina shouldn’t be a problem.
Oliver has booked Billy Lee for the ride, a jockey that has won 14 times for this trainer and not always on the most obvious of chances – his level-stakes profit is +£78.85 for this trainer.
The Phantom Punch is likely to be a big price as well, but there is enough there in his profile to take a chance on him landing a knockout blow.
