Cyrname misses Celebration Chase at Sandown due to quick ground

Cyrname will sidestep a clash with Altior in Saturday's bet365 Celebration Chase at Sandown due to quick ground.

Paul Nicholls' runner is the highest-rated chaser in training, with two breathtaking performances at Ascot, most recently in the Grade One Ascot Chase over two miles and five furlongs, sending him to a mark of 178.

Nicholls raised the prospect of dropping Cyrname down to the minimum trip for a meeting with dual Champion Chase winner Altior as long as there was sufficient give in the ground, but the recent dry weather has put paid to those plans.

Cyrname could still run in the Oaksey Chase on Saturday over two miles and six furlongs, for which declarations will be made on Friday.

Nicholls tweeted: "With the ground good, good to firm in places, (I) have not declared Cyrname in the Celebration Chase on Saturday @Sandownpark.

"Will re-visit that (Oaksey Chase option) tommorow morning depending how much rain is forecast overnight Friday into Saturday."

With Cyrname ruled out, Altior will face just five rivals as he seeks his 19th successive victory.

Nicholls has declared Diego Du Charmil while Alan King's Champion Chase third Sceau Royal will have another shot at Altior.

Darebin, God's Own and Vosnee Romanee complete the list.
