Aidan O'Brien's dual Group One winner Circus Maximus retired to stud at Coolmore

Multiple Group One winner Circus Maximus has been retired to stud and will stand at Coolmore in 2021.

The son of Galileo signed off on his career with a fast-finishing second in the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Keeneland on Saturday, just failing to reel in stablemate Order Of Australia as trainer Aidan O'Brien saddled the first three home.

Bred by the Niarchos Family, Circus Maximus won twice at Royal Ascot, firstly defeating King of Comedy and Too Darn Hot in the 2019 running of the Group One St James’s Palace Stakes before landing the Group One Queen Anne Stakes the following season.

As a three-year-old, Circus Maximus also won the Group One Prix de Moulin, while he also displayed smart form as a juvenile, most notably when beaten only a length in the Group One Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes at Doncaster.

O'Brien said of Circus Maximus: "Circus Maximus is very tough and travels with a lot of speed.

"He’s that type of horse that can often make very good stallions. We’ll definitely be breeding to him.”
