Kim Bailey hopes Charbel can atone for his agonising fall at the Cheltenham Festival when he runs in the Doom Bar Maghull Novices' Chase at Aintree.
The six-year-old was in the process of giving Altior a run for his money in the Arkle but parted company with David Bass at the second-last.
Having undergone on a number of schooling sessions since that tumble, Charbel now attempts to gain compensation in the Grade One on Merseyside.
Bailey said: "Charbel is fine and the fall didn't seem to worry him.
"He has schooled half a dozen times since. He was flying after the fall and schooled four days after it.
"He has done one piece of work since Cheltenham which was good.
"He would have gone very close in the Arkle but who knows what would have happened as it was too far out, but he was going well at the time.
"He would have been closer to Altior than he was at Sandown.
"I think there are two or three other front-runners in the race so we will see how it develops, but I will leave David Bass to decide what he does."
Connections of Politologue hope a drop back to two miles can allow him to triumph at the top level for the first time after having finished fourth on his latest start in the JLT Novices' Chase at Cheltenham.
Owner John Hales said: "We've dropped him back in trip as he didn't quite finish his race off in the JLT.
"Looking back it might have been better trying to make the running at Cheltenham but you have to look forward in racing.
"The one thing we learnt is that we need to try him over two miles over fences. He is such a quick and accurate jumper.
"He is a good horse and I have high hopes for him. The ground should be fine for him so I see no problems there."
Politologue is one of two runners in the race for Nicholls, who also saddles recent Ascot scorer San Benedeto.
The five-runner field is completed by Forest Bihan and Colla Pier.
