Catching Pigeons: Gossip and tips from the gallops

Soldier's Call is backed to run a big race at rewarding odds at Royal Ascot on Saturday as Catching Pigeons delivers the latest homework gossip.

Nate The Grate should go close at a big price in the Listed Chesham Stakes on a Saturday.

Archie Watson has quickly established himself as a fine trainer, and his two-year-olds have served him well again to ensure a lucrative first half of the campaign.

There was plenty of support behind this son of Nathaniel on his debut at Carlisle a couple of weeks ago and he duly delivered, producing a smart turn of foot to put the race to bed very sharply.

Given his breeding, he has done well to win over six furlongs but he has always shown a fair bit of quality at home and this step up in trip will be appreciated.

Watson also holds a handful of promising precocious types and one of their number, Soldier's Call, merits serious consideration in the Windsor Castle Stakes.

Just how this weakest of the four sprint juvenile events at the meetings is the third race on the Saturday card is a bit surprising, but TV coverage is king and it will still take plenty of winning.

However, Soldier's Call looked very good when breaking his duck at Haydock last time and he looks another worthy of a win and place wager.

Dreamfield has been working stylishly ahead of the Wokingham Stakes and there will be some long faces in the Godolphin camp if this unbeaten horse doesn't remain that way. He's considered to have serious Pattern-race potential and shouldn't be opposed in the win market.

Crystal Ocean has been haring up the Al Bahathri gallop at HQ and can cap a fine week for sir Michael Stoute in the Hardwicke Stakes.

The Stoute camp were overjoyed with Poet's Word in the Prince Of Wales's earlier in the week and this late-maturing four-year-old is considered a notch up from him in the grand scheme of things.

Stoute and the Cheveley Park team are keen on the chances of Heavenly Bliss in Sunday's Bet toteplacepot At totesport.com EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes at Pontefract.

The daughter of Intello - closely related to the Listed-class Seven Heavens - moves well at home and looks ready enough to do her job first time out.

Some other names to monitor from Newmarket include Luca Cumani's Four White Socks, who has looked really sharp in her work since beating Simple Thought at Goodwood earlier in the month, and the Michael Bell-trained Fire Brigade. The latter has had a wind operation since his last outing and could be seen on the Tapeta surface at Newcastle on Thursday.

Also keep an eye out for a Kingman juvenile in the care of David Simock who could be appearing for the first time on a racecourse near you over the next few weeks.
