We've teamed up with Weatherbys to look at some of the stats that you'll need to know before parting with your cash ahead of Sunday's Fox Family Persian War Novices' Hurdle at Chepstow.
3.25 Chepstow - Fox Family Persian War Novices' Hurdle (Grade 2)
- 9/10 - Boasted previous hurdles experience (Fingal Bay the only debut winner in last 17 years)
- 9/10 - Came from the first four in the betting
- 8/10 - Aged five or six
- 7/10 - Ran in at least one NH Flat Race
- 6/10 - Second-season novice
- 6/10 - Already won over hurdles
Kim Bailey has his horses in tremendous form at present and MINELLA WARRIOR looks the one to focus on in Sunday’s Persian War Novices’ Hurdle. He ticks five of the highlighted six trends, only falling short by not being a second-season novice. That said, he did make his hurdling debut in May so only misses out by technicality. He ran in a bumper (good enough to chase home Kalashnikov) and is a dual-winning six-year-old. Runner-up in an Irish Point-to-Point (4 of the last 5 winners won in that sphere), he shapes as though he will appreciate the stiff finish at Chepstow.
Paul Nicholls has won this race six times in all (4 times in the past decade) so Secret Investor, who also looks the right type for the race, deserves respect, but the main threat might well come from Coolanly who won a bumper here last October. He represents last year’s winning trainer and also ticks plenty of boxes, being a second-season novice. He only falls short on the ‘previous winner’ stat, although he was highly tried after chasing home the exciting Vinndication on his hurdling debut.
