Pilgrims Bay wins feature BetBright Chase at Kempton

Get all of Saturday's racing reports here as Pilgrims Bay won the feature BetBright Chase at Kempton.

Best shines on Bay

James Best gave the strong-travelling Pilgrims Bay the kid gloves treatment on their way to success at 25/1 in the Betbright Chase at Kempton.

In a race run at a good pace throughout despite the fall with a circuit to go of leader Cocktails At Dawn, there were several runners travelling powerfully turning for home in behind the pace.

Theatre Guide, who had done well to get back into contention having been hampered in that incident, was to the fore, along with the well-backed Double Shuffle.

Double Shuffle made a major error two out, losing ground in the process, but Adrian Heskin got him motoring again and he was still in with a shout heading to the last.

However, all the while James Best was nursing the lightly-weighted Pilgrims Bay into contention and he eased past last year's winner Theatre Guide over the final fence.

Best seemed reluctant for go for everything, but when finally asking his mount a question Pilgrims Bay found enough to hold the rallying Double Shuffle by half a length.

Blueyes masters Adonis

Master Blueyes was a wide-margin winner of the BetBright Genius Adonis Hurdle as hot-favourite Charli Parcs fell at Kempton.

Nicky Henderson's horse was sent off the 8/15 favourite and was high up in the lists for both the Sky Bet Supreme and JCB Triumph Hurdle, but he wasn't travelling well at an early stage.

To his credit he battled into contention and was still in with a chance when falling two from home, although Master Blueyes was going the better under Tom Bellamy, deputising for the injured Wayne Hutchinson.

Alan King's grey took up the running from Evening Hush between the final two flights and ran away for an easy 11-length success.

Frodon too good for Present

Frodon jumped straight and true to see off the challenge of Gold Present and win the BetBright Pendil Novices' Chase at Kempton Park.

With Charmix seemingly all at sea on the right-handed track from some way out, the race was left as a duel from the third-last fence onwards.

Jerry McGrath seemed to be travelling nicely on 13/2 chance Gold Present and as the pair turned for home neck and neck, it was far from obvious which of the pair would prevail.

However, Gold Present started to wander once coming under pressure, and hanging left and then right across the track, handed the initiative to Frodon.

Fluent fencing is Frodon's hallmark and the 8/11 favourite produced a typically-solid leap at the last to score by two lengths.

Wylde lands Dovecote success

River Wylde maintained his unbeaten record over hurdles with a smooth success in the Sky Bet Dovecote at Kempton.

With freegoing favourite Capitaine always going a stride too quickly in front, he proved a spent force soon after the home turn.

As Capitaine dropped out, that left River Wylde, who had travelled notably smoothly throughout the contest under Nico de Boinville, in pole position, alongside Alan King's smart yardstick Elgin.

River Wylde needed to be asked to go after the final flight, but he responded willingly to score by three and a half lengths.

Frost bites at Kempton

River Frost left his fall at Wincanton behind him when getting back to winning ways in the Racing UK HD Handicap Hurdle.

Having scored at the Sunbury track on his previous start, the Alan King-trained gelding maintained his unbeaten record at the track in the two-mile-five-furlong event.

Hitting the front late on, the 5-1 favourite found plenty for pressure under Barry Geraghty to defeat Coastal Tiep by a length and a quarter.

Mysteree grinds out Eider win

Over at Newcastle Mysteree battled to a game success over Knockanrawley in the Betfred Eider Chase at Newcastle.

The nine-year-old was pulled up at Plumpton on his latest start on January 2 but bounced back to winning form under Robert Dunne.

Scudamore had won the Devon National at Exeter on Friday with Kingswell Theatre so he was taking his second decent staying chase prize in two days.

Knockanrawley kept on well for second while 6/1 favourite Shotgun Paddy stayed on for third. Harry The Viking was fourth.

Obeaux wins it in stewards' room

Dinaria Des Obeaux justified odds-on favouritism in the Winning Fair Juvenile Hurdle at Fairyhouse after a stewards' inquiry.

Gordon Elliott's charge was sent off at 10-11 for the Grade Three contest and was at the head of affairs for much of the race, though Ex Patriot swept ahead approaching the last in the hands of Davy Russell.

Bryan Cooper was forced to switch Dinaris Des Obeaux out as Ex Patriot cut across her, and was gaining with every stride heading to the finish, missing out by a head.

The stewards then deemed the interference caused by Ex Patriot to be enough to reverse the placings, giving the win to Elliott's mare.
