Classic-winning jockey George Baker opens up to Racing Welfare about his career-ending injury in the latest episode of their brand new weekly podcast ‘On Track, Off Course’
During a frank and emotional conversation with podcast hosts Lauren Braithwaite and Tina Scargill, Baker talks about the impact of a fall on the ice in St Moritz when he was at the height of his career.
He discusses rebuilding his life after the traumatic head injury, learning to walk again and how he coped with intrusive and unwelcome thoughts. He details the help he has received from within the racing industry and the fundamental importance of mental-health support.
Baker, who now works as a pundit for Racing TV and recently qualified as a jockey coach says: “Racing Welfare is a fantastic charity and I was really happy to support them with this project which I’m sure will help many people. It was emotional and it’s not always easy to look back but I really enjoyed speaking to Lauren and Tina.
"Physical health support is so important for our wellbeing and is available to everyone in the industry. I hope this interview will encourage people to come forward for the help they need.”
