Timeform US racing expert Jake Price picks out his best bets for tonight's action Stateside.
Today’s racing at Aqueduct is very competitive and provides the perfect prelude before Saturday’s Cigar Mile card. The turf races in particular have large fields and our selections both come on that surface.
Race 5 is a claimer for fillies and mares who have never won two races and a number in the field are either lightly raced or dropping in grade. Despite a wide starting berth I expect the Graham Motion-trained PERHAPS TONIGHT to be firmly in the mix.
The daughter of Sir Prancelot put up a pair of good speedfigures in races at Delaware over an extended mile in the summer - the first when winning a maiden special weight before finishing a close fourth in an allowance event. She recently returned from a two-month break with a ½-length second over C&D, a very pleasing effort on the face of it. That run should put her spot on for this and she has blinkers on for the first time.
JACK THE CAT is a consistent performer and makes plenty of appeal in the claimer carded as race 9. He’s presumably had his share of issues having had only two starts this year, but the speedfigures he produced confirm he’s retained all his ability, whilst also arriving fresher than most.
His trainer Raymond Handel has a respectable strike-rate with similar sorts having a second start off an absence and there should be enough pace for this closer to gradually make his mark down the home stretch.
