Another big weekend of sport awaits with quality racing, top-flight football, NFL and more - and we have a host of selections.
Laugh A Minute - 2.05 Doncaster
Donjuan Triumphant and Librisa Breeze drop in grade in the Wentworth Stakes but they could be vulnerable to the in-form and improving Laugh A Minute for Roger Varian. Ridden by the king of Doncaster, Andrea Atzeni, Laugh A Minute is two from two on Town Moor and has taken his form to a new level on his last two starts. In France last time he ran well in second in Group Three company and, raised to 109 after that, he’s bang in the mix with the best of these on official ratings now. He won’t mind any easing of the ground and with rain forecast he looks the bet of the afternoon as he bids to make it a hat-trick of wins at this track.
Paul Nicholls has a fantastic record in the Badger Ales Trophy at Wincanton and can bring up a ninth career win in the staying handicap chase courtesy of El Bandit. He’s been off 543 days due to an injury but Nicholls tends to have them fit and firing first time out following a layoff and this horse still has loads of time on his side as a seven-year-old. He won by 16 lengths on his chasing debut when last seen (May 2017) so clearly has potential in this sphere while his victory over Coo Star Sivola in the Grade Two Persian War Novices’ Hurdle in his youth gives the impression he’ll have plenty in hand from a mark of 139. Stamina is assured and the overnight rain brings conditions more into his favour too.
West Ham to win the second half
After a dip in form, West Ham have a great chance to make it back-to-back wins as they travel to lowly Huddersfield. With Monday's strike coming courtesy of Fulham's Timothy Fosu-Mensah, the hosts have not scored at home since April. Furthermore, four of Town's five league goals in 2018/19 have come in the first half, so the Hammers to win the second half at a best price of 17/10 looks like your best bet.
It should be a struggle and the draw does look appealing at first but Brighton have been much better away from home this season than last despite just the one win at Newcastle, and this is a similar assignment that they can come through. Cardiff have offered up chances to most teams so preference is for the visitors to pinch it.
Marco Stiepermann to score anytime
Teemu Pukki and Jordan Rhodes have been leading the goals department for Norwich, but Marco Stiepermann has continued to provide a threat and he is due a goal having yet to find the net in the league. The midfielder did score in their 3-1 victory over Stevenage in the first round of the Carabao Cup and he's been responsible for four assists in all competitions. He had to settle for an appearance from the bench in their 4-0 hammering away at Sheffield Wednesday following a spell with tonsillitis, but should return to the starting XI here.
Oleksandr Usyk to beat Tony Bellew by decision
At even-money for the stoppage, the layers are expecting Usyk to get the job done inside the distance but he isn’t a huge puncher, rarely 'sitting down' on his shots and opting for volume rather than power.
Add this to the huge defensive improvements Bellew has made under trainer Dave Coldwell and how much sturdier he has looked since stepping up from light heavyweight, and the 7/4 about the champion retaining his belts via the scorecards makes much more appeal.
Max Verstappen to finish on the podium at 11/8
Verstappen's sublime victory in Mexico two weeks ago was the continuation of a rich run of form since the Canadian Grand Prix in June. Of the last 11 races he has finished, eight have seen him on the rostrum.
Ireland v Argentina - Argentina first to 10 points
Ireland should win, but could take time to get going. Their best side hasn't played together since the summer tour to Australia, with the likes of Rory Best, Johnny Sexton, Sean O'Brien and Robbie Henshaw all rested last week for the win over Italy. Argentina have more momentum having just finished two month's of Rugby Championship Test matches.
Sunday handicap treble: Saints (-5), Rams (-8) & Eagles (-7) all to win at 5/1
Three tough games again but the New Orleans Saints have won seven in a row and that run can continue in Cincinnati, while the Rams need a bounce-back victory and back at home they can get the better of divisional rivals Seattle. The late game sees he Super Bowl champions back at home in Philadelphia, after a week off, taking on the Dallas Cowboys who just can't get going this season.
