The Tampa Bay Lightning extended their lead at the top of the NHL's Atlantic Division with a 4-3 comeback win against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Trailing by two goals heading into the third period, the Lightning rallied to produce three in the space of 10 minutes.

Leading points-scorer Nikita Kucherov tied the game with a shot that deflected off the skate of the Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly, before Alex Killorn netted the winner off a pass from Anthony Cirelli.

Goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy made 27 saves for his 41st win - the best in the NHL and a Lightning record.

Artemi Panarin scored a hat-trick to help power Columbus to their ninth win in a row.

The Blue Jackets toppled the New York Rangers 5-3, moving them into third place in the Metropolitan Division.

A 4-3 victory against the Dallas Stars helped the Washington Capitals extend their lead in that division, with Alex Ovechkin scoring his 44th goal this season.

Jonathan Marchessault ended an 11-game goalless drought as the Vegas Golden Knights beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-1, while the goals came thick and fast in the Florida Panthers' 7-2 triumph over the Ottawa Senators.

Sky Bet: Montreal Canadiens are 3/1 to beat Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night

The Pittsburgh Penguins lost ground in their bid to take over the top spot in the Metropolitan Division, losing 4-1 to the New York Islanders.

And the Chicago Blackhawks saw their hopes of clinching a play-off place fade completely with a 5-1 defeat against the Colorado Avalanche.

Elsewhere, the Philadelphia Flyers suffered a 5-4 shootout loss to the Detroit Red Wings, while the Winnipeg Jets set a team record for the most wins a season with a 2-1 defeat of the Los Angeles Kings.

The Edmonton Oilers toppled the Carolina Hurricanes 7-3 and the San Jose Sharks overcame the New Jersey Devils 6-2.
