Former European 400metres hurdles champion Rhys Williams has announced his retirement from athletics.
Welsh hurdler Williams, who won European gold in 2012 after claiming silver two years earlier, had hoped to compete at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on Australia's Gold Coast next April.
But the 2012 London Olympian has seen that ambition ended by an Achilles injury.
The 33-year-old won Commonwealth bronze for Wales at Delhi in 2010, but missed out on Glasgow 2014 after failing a drugs test.
Williams was given a four-month ban for taking a banned supplement, but was cleared by UK Anti-Doping of knowingly cheating.
"As a patriotic Welshman, nothing has given me more pride than putting on a Welsh vest and competing for my country," Williams said in a statement published on www.welshathletics.org.
"Unfortunately, injury has prematurely ended my hopes of competing one last time at the Commonwealth Games next year."
