Sporting Life picks out the top five events or fixtures of the week not to be missed

Every week throughout summer, Sporting Life will pick out five highlights so you never miss a beat.

Our writers will provide all of the key information such as TV channels and kick-off times, plus the latest odds from Sky Bet and, finally, their own unmissable verdict.

We continue with five sporting highlights for the week ahead, from July 15-21.

Racing - Weekend action

When: Saturday

Where: Newbury and the Curragh

TV: Racing TV

Sky Bet odds

It's a quiet enough week in the world of racing with Glorious Goodwood on the horizon, but watch out for the Kerrygold Irish Oaks at the Curragh on Saturday.

Over at Newbury, the challenge will be to work out the Weatherbys Super Sprint but that's a puzzle Ben Linfoot has cracked before, and he'll be back to preview the action on Friday.

Best bet: Will appear here

Darts - World Matchplay

When: Saturday onwards

Where: Blackpool

TV: Sky Sports Action

Chris Hammer bagged a tipping one-two at the weekend, 10/1 selection Peter Wright beating an 80/1 each-way fancy in Germany, and he'll return to preview the World Matchplay.

This prestigious TV prize was won by Gary Anderson last year as he took the title for the first time, while there will be plenty of attention on Michael van Gerwen after his shock loss to Martin Schindler as he threw away a 5-1 lead to lose 6-5.

Best bet: Will appear here

Golf - The Open

When: Thursday to Saturday

Where: Royal Portrush

TV: Sky Sports Golf with highlights on BBC

Sky Bet odds

The Open returns to Portrush for the first time in 68 years with the action under way on Thursday.

Rory McIlroy looks like starting favourite from fellow four-time major winner Brooks Koepka, while Tiger Woods makes his first start since the US Open.

We'll have live coverage from the course all week.

Best bet: Will appear here

Football - Man Utd v Leeds

When: Wednesday, 1200 BST

Where: Australia

TV: MUTV and LUTV

It's a busy week in football with the African Cup of Nations concluding, more Champions and Europa League action and plenty going on in Scandinavia.

There's equal interest in the friendlies, though, and we'll have keen eye on old rivals Leeds and Manchester United when they take to the pitch in Perth on Wednesday.

The match takes place at 7pm local time, which is midday here.

Best bet: Will appear here

Cycling - Tour de France

When: Ongoing

Where: ...France

TV: Eurosport

The Tour de France - or Le Tour if you want to impress your friends - continues as riders embark upon their second week.

We'll have day-by-day reports and reaction plus the latest standings and Geraint Thomas steps up his bid for the yellow jersey.
